On large construction sites, why the surface grade changed?
In civil engineering and landscape architectural design, grading is the task of ensuring a level base, or one with a defined slope, for construction work such as a foundation, a road or railway base course, or improvements to the landscape and garden, or drainage of the soil.
The earthworks developed for this purpose are often referred to as sub-grade or finished contouring.
In case of gravel roads, earthworks and for many purposes, grading shapes is not only the foundation but it is the cover and surface of the finished structure, and is often called finished grade.
It is often achieved using heavy machinery including bulldozers and excavators to roughly prepare an area and then using a grader for a finer finish.
