Retina is the innermost layer of the eye out of the three layers. It is the light-sensitive region, which is made up of rods and cones. These photoreceptors receive light from the outer layers and change them into electrical signals, which are carried by the optic nerve to the brain for visual perception. The class of organisms that contain the retina are the Vertebrates and some of the Molluscs.

The members of molluscs that have retina in the eye are Strombus galeatus, which is a free swimming vegetarian gastropod. Its eyes are located on the tips of protruding structure from the flared edge of its shell. It has everse retina, which contains rods and cones towards the distal end of the photoreceptor cell.
