PREAMBLE The recent Akosombo Dam spillage has displayed an estimated 35,857 people including children. People have lost their belongings and livelihoods. Schools, hospitals, and shops have been destroyed. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in collaboration with the Government of Ghana and the Youth Association of the area has decided to relocate permanently the displaced citizens to a 5,000-hectare piece of land acquired from the chiefs and people of Saglemi in the Greater Accra Region. The UNRWA will provide funding to the tune of US$600 million. The funds for the acquisition of the land are provided by the Government of Ghana and the United Tongu Youth Association in the Diaspora. The Entire Project has been contracted to a Consortium of three colleagues at KNUST. The College of Art and Built Environment, College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, and College of Social Sciences. 2. THE PROJECT The relocation is in FOUR PHASES as follows: Phase 1: The clearing of the site and the provision of roads, water, electricity, and telecommunication Phase 2: The construction of houses, schools, hospitals, community centres, and markets Phase 3: Mass civil education to impart knowledge to children, youth, and adults to effectively function as members of a new society, orientation, immunization, and psychological counselling Phase 4: Training needs assessment, developing training curriculum, and skill Empowering citizens for self-employment. The provision of basic working tools after training. 3. ASSIGNMENT Choose any of the phases for which you want to be the Project Manager.
