Normalization:

Normalization is a process of dividing the tables by more than one idea into set of tables such that each and every table contains only one idea.

First Normal Form (1NF):

The 1NF says about the table is flat. That is, there must no multi-valued variable and no composite attributes.

Step 1:

 Enter the sample data into table. Then, identify the key for that table and remove the duplicate data.

  • Here, Project Code, Project Name, Project Manager, and Project Budget contain the duplicated data. That is, more than one workers working on same project. So, set the Project Code as key and remove the duplicate data.

The following table describes about the unnormalised data.

 Convert the unnormalised data into 1NF.

  • Identify the repeating attributes, remove these repeating attributes to new table with copy of key from unnormalised form table, and set the key to new table.

Second Normal Form (2NF):

The 2NF is in a 1 NF if and only if all of its non-prime attributes are functionally dependent on each and every candidate key.

Functional dependencies:

The functional dependency is a relationship that exists at the time of one attribute distinctively determines another.

Steps:

  • Take each and every non-key attribute and check whether this attributes dependent on one part of key.
    • If yes, delete the attribute to new table it is dependent upon.
