Question

The density of gold is 19.3 g/cm^3 . A 6. 4 mg piece of gold is hammered into a square that is 8.6x10^-6 cm thick.( a.) Calculate the thickness of gold in um (micrometers) (b) What is the length of a side of the square, in cm?

check_circleAnswer
Step 1

Part (a):

The thickness of gold which is hammered into square is given in centimeters as: 8.6*10-6 cm

And we know that 1 centimeter=10000 micrometers

Hence

1 cm = 10000 micrometers

8.6*-6 cm = (10000 micrometers/1 cm)* 8.6*10-6 cm

Or calculation is given below,

Step 2

The thickness of gold in µm (micrometers) is 0.086 µm

Step 3

Part (b):

The density of gold is given as:  19.3 g/cm3

Mass of gold is given as: 6.4 mg

And thickness of gold is given as: 8.6*10-6 cm
