What are the changes that the ovaries and the uterus undergo during the female reproductive cycle?

The reproductive cycle or the menstrual cycle is the cycle of events and changes in the organs of reproductive system of a female. All the changes in the reproductive system prepares the female body for a successful pregnancy. The cycle is completed in approximately in 28 days.

Step 2

The major organs that bear majority of the changes are the ovaries and the uterus.

The walls of the uterus include three layers, namely, perimetrium, myometrium and endometrium. Endometrium being the innermost layer bears most of the changes. With the beginning of the menstrual cycle, day 1 of the cycle that includes bleeding phase, the endometrium starts preparing itself and the day14. Ovulation takes place around day 14. Endometrium become thickened with increase in number of blood vessels innervating the layer. The thickening of the endometrium provides optimal environment for implantation to occur.
