Dementia is a common term used to signify memory loss and impairment of mental abilities that obstruct daily life activities. It affects the regions of brain responsible for decision making, memory, and language processing. It is mostly associated with different diseases.

The different types of dementia are as follows:

  • Alzheimer’s disease: The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. The affected individuals experience problem in walking and sleeping. They also experience mood swings and confusion. It is responsible for sixty to eighty percent of dementia cases.
  • Lewy body dementia: In this disease deposits of alpha-synuclein protein are found in the brain. The affected person experiences hallucinations and difficulty in sleeping at night. They also face reasoning and thinking changes, imbalance in walking, delusion, and difficulty in interpreting visual information. It accounts for five to ten percent cases of dementia.
  • Frontotemporal dementia: The loss of nerve cells takes place in the temporal and frontal lobes of the brain. The two proteins associated with this disease...
