This name was given to the people who had first arrived in the Philippines. There were different barangays present in different parts of the Philippines, still; every barangay was provided equal status. The community of the Tagalog people was based on the social hierarchy as people were divided into different classes according to their occupation. Society was divided among the maginoo, maharlika, and the alipin. The people from maginoo class belonged to the royal class. The people from maharlika class belonged to the class of warriors and nobles. These people were exempted from paying any taxes. The third class was known as alipin, which constituted the slaves, commoners, and the serf people. The marriage customs of the Tagalog people were also very different as the weddings were held for three days and also they were conducted by male or female priests known as a babaylan. During the case of divorce, if a woman was going to marry another man by leaving her first husband then the woman had to provide all her belongings to her former husband along with some amount of money was also given. The Tagalog people did not have any proper place of worship. These people usually worshipped stars, sun, moon and some people worshipped idols of their tribal gods such as Dian masalanta. The Tagalog people used to bury the corpse of the dead people, which was then followed by relatives eating and drinking in the grief of the dead person.
