Question

What happens if you are missing chromosome 20?

Expert Solution
Step 1

A karyotype is the chromosomal analysis of an organism. It is a procedure in which geneticists organize micrographs of the stained homologous pairs of chromosomes in decreasing size.

Step 2

In a healthy person, there are 46 chromosomes (2n), of these 44 chromosomes in pairs are known as autosomes and each pair is numbered from 1 to 22. A pair of sex chromosomes (allosomes) is numbered as 23, and they determine the sex of the individual (XX is female and XY is male).
