What would be expected to happen if:
(a) GA3
is applied to rice seedlings
(b) dividing cells stop differentiating
(c) a rotten fruit gets mixed with unripe fruits
(d) you forget to add cytokinin to the culture medium.
Step by step
Solved in 2 steps
- 1. (i) List five response variables that should be determined in a callus induction experiment (ii) List five terms that describe texture of callus (iii) List five terms that describe colour of callus (iv) What is the sign of ethylene poisoning in a callus culture (v) Provide three applications of cell suspension culture (vi) What is the first appearance of embryogenic callus?Chrysanthemums are long-night plants that normally flower in thefall. If you could manipulate photoperiod, what would be the simplestway to prevent mums from blooming (without killing the plants)? Why cytokinins are applied to plants externally?
- We used seedlings of Lepidium sativum to see under which conditions it would germinate in an experiment. We'd use cotton wool and dampen it, and placing the seedlings at the bottom. Depending on which bottle it was, some were mixed with dampened cotton wool, and others didn't have cotton wool that were dampened. Then the opening of the bottle was covered, except for one which was covered with a lid. (See the picture). Now, I have to explain my results in my lab report. I can't find a solid source on what factors that cause the germination of seedlings. I've covered cellular respiration, and photosynthesis, but I don't know how to proceed from here. Bear also in mind that there's no soil in which the seed is germinating, so I will have to be able to explain this. Second of all, could you clue me in on how moisture is important for the germination of seedlings? Should I also bring up the physiology of seedlings and how they're growing? In order to increase the yield of wheat, scientists crossed wheat varieties with different species and of different genus. Write in detail the method of tissue culture they have used.what is the response variable and explanatory variable for wrapping a banana in plastic wrap and leaving the other bananas alone to see which one rots faster in experimental study design?
- What is vitrification? How stem cells and callus are different from each other? The oat coleoptiles of the seedlings (in the picture) have been modified: either cut or placed in a light-blocking tube. Explain which ones will stills bend toward a directional light source??The seedless banana, the world’s most popular fruit, islosing the battle against two fungal epidemics. Why dosuch epidemics generally pose a greater risk to asexuallypropagated crops?
- We observed onion (Allium) root tip through the light microscope. We were asked "Was your onion root tip actively growing prior to being preserved?" What should I expect to see if it was actively growing? What possible experiments can be done to examine whether Agrius convolvuli is the selective agent acting on the length of flower tubes in G. longicollis?1. (i) List five response variables that should be determined in a callus induction experiment (ii) List five terms that describe texture of callus (iii) List five terms that describe colour of callus (iv) What is the sign of ethylene poisoning in a callus culture (v) Provide three applications of cell suspension culture Sub-parts (iv) and (v) were not solved but the preceding sub-parts have already been solved
