 Research Question: The New World was not found in a day! Who are the famous explores from 1492-1550’s?
 Rationale: Anyone who has studied history of the Americas’ knows that it was founded by Christopher Columbus in 1492 however, he could not have explored the whole continent by himself. Who are the other Spanish explores and what are they famous for?

• Pedro Arias de Ávila arrived with 15 ships and was assigned to serve in place of the king and replaced Balboa as governor
• The king finally hear of the discovery and named him ‘Admiral of the South Sea’ and commanded the governor to support him at all cost
• Arias de Ávila at first supported him and even gave his daughters hand in marriage to Balboa but he soon got jealous of his fortunes
• Early 1519 Governor Avila took the life of Balboa by beheaded him on a trumped up charge of treason.
• This allowed Avila to continue ruling without opposition from a strong and truly just
