Two of the five websites that I took online career tests are 16personalities and MBTI. The questions of both tests were really similar as well as the number of the tests. The 16personalities test consists of 60 questions and the website encourage that people take the test within twelve minutes. And, the MBTI test consist of 64 question that only four more questions and does not take too long time as compared with the 16personalities. However, there are a few differences between both. the MBTI test has five options that I could respond for each question, while the 16personalities test has two more options that I could choose for my answer. Also, the result was different. The result of 16personalities test showed that how many more percentages
Personality is one of the concepts that often be used by social scientists.According to Schultz (2009), “Personality can be defined as the unique, relatively enduring internal and external aspects of a person’s character that influence behaviour in different situations”. In general, personality theories can be classified based on four major approaches which are psychoanalytic theory, trait theory, social learning theory, and humanistic theory (Refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).
After doing the personality tests on Indiana Career Explorer, the tests gave me a couple of examples of fields I would be successful in, it told me what values may be important to me in a workplace environment. I feel these assessments were spot on and I have more confidence in my ability to be successful in my career choice.
The MBTI differs from the more traditional testing and measuring traits, such as intelligence quotient (IQ) testing, in that the MBTI assesses individuals, and then classifies them into specific “types”. Although originally published by the Educational Testing Service, the MBTI protocol is currently controlled and published by the Consulting Psychology Press (CPP). To keep up with changing social standards and norms, CPP continually seeks to improve the MBTI, and as such the assessment is constantly in flux. In years past, there was only one set of official assessment questions. That has changed over time, and at present there are four unique versions of the assessment.
There were quite a few assessments I took to see where my personality, stress, productivity, and creativity levels are. Although I’m not a believer of these types of online and paper ‘diagnosis’ being accurate whatsoever, it does interest me to see what kind of results emerge from my answers. The first test I took was the Myers Brigg MBTI Personality Test – both the paper version and the online version. Both results
After taking a Myers-Briggs assessment my mind has been changed. The very first time I took any kind of personal assessment was my second year of college. I had taken my general education classes and it was time to pick a major. The thing is, what 19 year old know what they want to do for the rest of their lives? None I tell you! So I went to an advisor and was given the test. Many seemingly random questions the results were in; you can be a doctor or lawyer or astronaut they said! The least helpful 45 minutes of my life I gave to that advisor.
(Personality Tests > Even Popular Tests are Controversial , 2009) There is no right or wrong answers to the test questions that are asked. It simply asks for what is your preference of the choices given. It is simply looking for your preferences in order to understand the difference between people. (Take the MBTI® Instrument, No Year) For each of the 16 types of people, none of them are considered to be better or worse than any of the other types. The results are not compared against any norms. The point of taking the test is to understand your personality type. When receiving the results the test, the score is only for helping to identify any possible preferences that could help understand strengths or weaknesses that the test taker might have. (Cherry, 2012)
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is based on the Jung’s theory of psychological types. This is a self-report questionnaire that gives insight into how people interpret the world around them. This can be significantly important, as it can help someone better understand themselves, as well as their relationships, education, career, and role in the workplace. The MBTI was developed by Katharine Cook Briggs together along with her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers.
Each and every individual has different personalities, however these personalities can be grouped into 16 different types through Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) (Myersbriggs.org, 2016). Being able to acknowledge what type of personality others contribute too, allows one to understand them and their strength and weakness. No type is better than another, each type faces situations in different ways, to determine ones personality type the MBTI test can be calculated to allow one to know which personality group they accompany (Myersbriggs.org, 2016). The test determines whether a person is Extrovert Vs Introvert, Sensing Vs Intuitive, Thinking, Vs Feeling, and Judging Vs Perceiving. Through this test I was placed in the ENFP group which
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) helps individuals realize their personalities hence learn their strengths and weaknesses in their field of work. The random behavior an individual conducts on daily basis is thought to be orderly and consistent and differs with personalities as people use their perception and judgment in different ways. The best way to conduct this test is through an experienced MBIT administrator, however, there are online tools than can help one achieve almost similar results. Our life experiences play an important role in this test as what we have done or have been doing is what determines the answer an individual gives.
The Humanistic and Existential Theory I selected Person-Centered theory. The Person-centered approach was established in the 1940s by Carl R. Rogers. Carl Rogers’ established this theory to prove that a client hold the key to their recovery (ADPCA, 2011). This approach is considered to change clients prospective and facilitate growth by developing a positive counseling/client relationship. Once the relationship is achieved, in the process analyze the reality of who they are as an Individual and receive acceptance. This contributes to the positive forces of the client and a client’s self-actualizing core (ADPCA, 2011). “Person-centered approaches reflect what the client feels, to overcome resistance
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment that helps to assess one 's psychological preferences based on a psychometric questionnaire. These preferences were extracted from the typological theories proposed by Carl Gustav Jung writings in his book 'Psychological Types '. The MBTI focuses on normal populations and emphasizes the value of naturally occurring differences. [1] Also recognized commonly as a behavioral assessment tool, the MBTI uses a combination of 4 letters and each represent a clearly defined attribute. Altogether, the MBTI test consists of 16 different personality types that will describe one’s personality in alleged detail.
When looking at the chosen test there is desirability about it. It looks simple and colourful. The instructions and questions are clear and readable. There are also other sections on the 16 Personalities test website that talks about the theory behind the test as well as statistics about the test, which allows the test taker to gain knowledge about the purpose and understanding of the report after the test has been taken. Another type of validity is differential validity, which refers to whether a test is able to generate different characteristics for different test takers (Foxcroft & Roodt, 2013). The chosen test is a personality measure, which implies that is should be able to distinguish between the different personality types according
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an assessment that measures someone's psychological preferences, and how we use these preferences to make a decision. Upon finishing the assessment, I have been classified as an extroverted sensing thinking judging (ESTJ). Which, to me, make perfect sense because according to www.humanmetrics.com/personality/estj, it explains that ESTJ's are joiners, outspoken, and "thrive on order and continuity". All these aspects outline how I think, how I view most subjects, and points out most of my biases. This assessment made me realize why I write in the way I do, because I write logically, objectively, and write more quickly because of it. I don't appeal to the audience and tend to brush
Motivation is a subject that researchers, practitioners, and organizations have spent an unprecedented amount of money on researching, assessing, modeling and working to understand human behavior and performance. With all the research, there is not a quick answer or even full agreement as to what exactly motivates individuals to be successful. The extensive amount of research has included studies across a variety of work settings and at the level of the individual, the group, and the organization leaving us with many theories to explore. Researchers have identified and agreed upon that individual behavior and personality relate to individual performance. I am no different.
