By the end of all of the formations of alliances two powers emerged, the Allies, which consisted of Great Britain, France, Serbia, Russia, and Belgium, and the Central Powers which was Germany, Austria-Hungary, and then later joined by Bulgaria and Turkey. These alliances did not maintain the peace in the least bit because if a war were to break out, it would involve all of the greater powers of Europe since the members of each group would feel the only right thing to do would be to support one another during the war. The alliances themselves actually contributed to the war because they caused more and more nations to enter the war as it progressed. The alliances formed ties between the nations that required them to support a country during a time of need, which in this case was war.

Alliances are when two or more countries make an agreement to support each other. Alliances are formed due to rivalries and mistrust among countries. When one country is part of a war, its allies are also pulled into the battle. The two major alliances during WWI were the triple alliance, containing Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary, and the triple entente which contained Great Britain, France, Serbia and Russia. The alliance system is significant because if Germany and Austria-Hungary never teamed up, there might have been no war at all. The two main alliances were The Triple Alliance which consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy and the other alliance was The Triple Entente which consisted of France, Russia and Great Britain. When the war started, Great Britain declared war on Germany therefore since they were in an alliance, Austria-Hungary and Italy had to fight with Germany and since Great Britain declared war, Russia and France had to fight with Great Britain and from there on other countries had to join in the war with other alliances they were in. If there was no alliance system, there wouldn’t have been such a world catastrophe where almost even country and nation had to fight

There were four main leaders during the Versailles Conference and they were: Woodrow Wilson, George Clemenceau, David Lloyd George, and Vittorio Orlando. Each of them had major goals that would benefit them since the war was on their land. Vittorio Orlando, the Prime Minister of Italy, worked to get the extra land for Italy. Originally, they would not have been able to do this since Italy was originally an ally of Germany, but they switched over to the Allied Powers in 1915 and declared war on Germany. The beginning of the 20th century many countries had alliances that are almost like friends between each other witch would ironically start the largest war the world has seen at the time. WW1 was between two groups of alliances, the Central powers that consisted of Germany Austria- hungry Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire. Each side thought this massive war would be over very quickly because of all the technologies in new weaponry such as machine guns, tanks, airplane warfare, submarines and chemical weapons were thought to overpower anyone who tried to fight back. Chemical weapons were said to be too inhuman and destructive to be used during war so they are now banned from any confutation.
