The Great Wall Wall of China was so hard to build with the lack of technology. Many people were forced to work on the wall from sun up to sun down. People didn't want to work on the wall because of the long work days, no modern tools, and no rest time.
During Chunqiu rule small separate walls protected themselves against nomadic invaders. In 221 bc Emperor Qin Shi came to power and first wanted to unify China. Qin ruled with absolute power and harsh punishment, ordering most of the population to work on The Great Wall of China. It protected the people from the Mongols and Turkish from the North. The Tibetan Plateau and the Pacific Ocean are China’s natural borders on the East and West sides of China. The guard towers were placed high along the Great Wall to be able to see people coming from long distances. The workers did not the appropriate tools to work with, they only had handmade buckets, piles of dirt, pieces of wood, bamboo and their bare hands. The idea of one long continuous wall was thought of by Emperor Qin Shi Huang. He declared himself as China’s first emperor and at that time was the biggest ruler on the planet. When Qin ordered construction to begin he put General Meng Tian in charge of the project. Although today much of the Great Wall is in ruins, the most famous and visited section was built in the 14th-17th centuries A.D..
China was ruled by people that they tried to keep out. The Wall became more of a barrier from the world than to keep people from invading. The watch towers were used to send smoke signals to warn other watch towers about invasions. The threat was real with the Mongols because they were always very close to China’s borders. Genghis Khan broke through the neglected wall in 1215. The Manchu Clans overthrew the Ming Dynasty in 1644. People thought that the Wall was a Military defense and did not think that it was good for China The Great Wall never did it’s job by keeping the invaders out.
The people of China believed in different religions but did admire the Buddhist ideas. At first Buddhism was not popular in China but after many years of war people turned towards the calming ideas that Buddhism taught.
