The majority of first year college students are not sure what they want to major in. Thus, these students into college on an undecided major in order to venture through college and keep their options open for their future career. However, second year college student Charley began his path in college knowing exactly what he wanted to major in and what career options he wanted to pursue. As most college students, Charley is not sure of his future career goals just yet; however, he is sure that he does want to major in Computer Science.
Charley stated in the interview that since he was as young as nine years old he wanted to do some type of work that involved technology. He discovered this when he received his first electronic robot programmer. He stated that he enjoyed taking the robot apart and figuring out what pieces created which function with the robot. After taking the robot apart and figuring out the functions of the robot, he went on to program the robot to say his name. This was just the beginning of his journey to college as a computer science major. Charley stated enthusiastically that he would spend hours on the computer fixing “bugs” and “glitches.” He also recalled, “I was the neighborhood kid that everyone went to for help on their computer, I want to make a career not helping people

In the 90s when technology was just beginning to rise, Marcos foresaw the importance of a career in technology. During the summer of my tenth grade year, I interned at Accenture, a consulting firm, where I repaired computers and resolved any software issues. At first I started opening and and exploring parts of retired dell laptops. As I became more proficient, I was able to help clients fix PC issues such as broken screens, replacing RAM, and transferring data from the hard drives to another computer. This internship inspired me to consider the Technology industry as a possible career. Taking into consideration the broad range of possible career paths in technology, I decided to major in Computer Science once I get to college.

High School counselors prepare you academically and allow the paperwork process to run smoothly when entering college as a freshman.
