September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.

9/11 was of the biggest “terrorist attack” in the United States History. Many building was destroyed in this single day. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the pentagon, and crash in field near Shanksville in western Pennsylvania. The day of 9/11 was a conspiracy.

This week we mark the 14th anniversary of one of the worst days in American history -- the day we have come to know by two numbers: 9/11.

On September 11, 2001 four passenger commercial jet airliners were hijacked and as a result approximately 3,000 human lives were lost. When asked about 9/11, many can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard the news that a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings and many Americans can tell you how it all unfolded and the reason behind such a travesty. The “official story” provided by officials, and restated by Sofia Shafquat, producer of “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” say that “four passenger planes were hijacked and taken radically off course, within an hour, two of the planes had flown into the enormous steel towers of the World Trade Center, creating fires and eventually toppling them” (Shafquat).

An event such as 9/11 was bound to occur at some point and time, due to the United States’ strained relationship with the Middle East, with roots back to the year 1910. However, it wasn’t until the Gulf War in 1991, when tensions began to run high. The Gulf War began due to an Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, who ordered an invasion of Kuwait. Neighbouring countries were alarmed by the news and immediately asked for Western nations to intervene, fearing Hussein would continue to feed his power hunger and advance to other Arabian countries. If you may not know what 9/11 is it is the day when American Boeing Airlines loaded with 20,000 gallons of fuel crashed into the World Trade Center. The crash left a gaping, burning hole near the 80th to the 110th floor. About 18 minutes after the first crash on the north side of the Trade Center, the second Boeing plane hit the south side of the building on the 60th floor. September 11, 2001 was a milestone in the history of the United States, which experienced a collective shock and trauma that has never been forgotten. In the United States most of all, the entire airline and tourist industry was driven to the edge of bankruptcy and would not have survived at all without a major bailout by the federal government. It was already in poor condition for many years after deregulation in 1978, the September 11th attacks were a Near Death Experience. After that time, the airlines decided that they could never permit another attack like this or they would be driven out of business. As it was, their stock prices collapsed and passenger schedules did not return to pre-September 11th levels for four years. All previous security plans were judged to be useless and inadequate, and were taken out of the hands of private security contractors and turned over to the federal government. New and more restrictive laws like the Patriot Act came into being, and the U.S. launched an all-out war on Al Qaeda that has continued for eleven long years.

On September 11, 2001, the United States witnessed horrific attacks of terrorism better known as “9/11.” On the morning of 9/11, a terrorist organization known as Al Qaeda, hijacked four different commercial planes; two of them attacking the Twin Towers in New York City, one of them attacking the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and one of them crashing onto a rural field of Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed in these attacks, making it the largest terrorist attack in US history. As soon as these attacks occurred, US citizens concerned and feared for their safety, and questioned President Bush’s leadership. There were people who believed in Bush’s leadership, and there were people who blamed Bush for the attacks of 9/11.

I will explain what each factor is and then I will explain its impact on the consumption of news. In today’s society, remaining connected and knowledgeable of current events and the newest trends is vital to staying ahead in business, education, and social standing. This information is supplied to everyone through the internet, newspapers, television, and radio. One can tune into stations such as CNN, NBC, Fox News, Al-Jazeera, and many others (“SQs of Media Outlets”). In order to meet the needs of viewers, readers, and listeners, the ideal media system would contain accurate, quick information, with a purely impartial view on the facts as they are known. However, this modern media system has not maintained an objective view, pushing opinionated and slanted reporting onto the population in order to create profit and gain customers. The exploitation of information media for personal gain has created a toxic and inaccurate present, constant in today’s society.

The six power houses are Fox News, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC. These sources are the main sources were people get their news. Mainstream media are traditional forms of mass communication such as news papers, television, and radio. Mainstream t.v. comes before cable because mainstream t.v. is on regular t.v. were as to cable is paid television. ABC, CBS, and NBS are the original sources that most people turn to since they are on regular television. These three sources dominated the U.S. in television because they were some of the first sources that started in the 1940’s. CNN and MSNBC started in 1980 and are cable t.v. networks that are paid.
