Toni Ann Grasso Professor Sperrazza Sociology 101 Sociology Research Paper November 25, 2014 Security Post September 11, 2001 Post September 11th 2001 people ages 40-60 lost all trust within America. Faith in humanity was lost and now we need faith more then ever, we have lost what we call our security blanket. Every time we open a newspaper or watch the news after a long day of work we have the temptation to despair, filling ourselves with fear more and more each day. Everyone in our eyes is the next terrorist or serial killer. America has never been as fearful as it is now. I have grown up in a world where technology multiplies and get bigger each day. Media portrays all that is going on within the world and it has become a sick routine to watch the devastating news every morning and night making Americans numb to what goes on in society. We have changed our ways more than any other country in this world. The most obvious changes Americans have faced after September 11th 2001 take place at airports. Travelers now must check in at least two hours before their flight takes off. There are numerous amounts of restrictions on what travelers can bring. Any liquids and toiletries have to be a certain size and placed in a clear sealed zip lock bag. There are also absolutely no tweezers or nail clippers allowed past security. No water bottles or food is allowed through security no matter what. Liquids with an exception of only 3 ounces are allowed past security if taken on your
The first major change that took place after 9/11 was more security was created. For example, the screening that happens now wasn’t as intense as it is now. It seems as if you are stripped from everything before entering the security screening process. Prior to September 11, 2001 you only had to show you’re identification card. You were even allowed to carry on knives and scissors. Although I do not remember this because I was only 4 years old, but my mother told me that only a curtain was used to separate the area of passengers from the pilot. Now, at every checkpoint you are asked to show you’re identification. We could board the planes without removing clothing, shoes or belts, but now you have
On September 11, 2001 terrorists apprehended 4 airplanes and committed the most heinous act in American history. They flew two planes into the world trade center, one into the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania crash killing more than three thousand American citizens. Since 9 /11many things have changed in America in relation to our national security.
The terrorist attacks of September 11, altered American 's perceptions of the role in the world by strongly supporting the increased spending on national security and counterterrorism. Also, Americans have become more aware of how and where to engage in the world. As a result of the attacks, the US now has a defense that totals to nearly half the global total and has military dominance over scene, air, and space. The US also has the capability to dispatch massive military power anywhere in the world making them the system shaper. You may ask yourself just have a bad or do you check on September 11, 2001 was that led to this chaos and security becoming abnormally tight you may ask yourself just have a bad do you check on September 11, 2001
On September 11, 2001, America as we know it changed forever. We were attacked on our own soil for the first time since the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Our country thought we were safe from terrorist attacks due to the oceans that separated us. We discovered on that horror-filled day that we were extremely incorrect. Our own resources were used against us in those atrocious acts of terrorism. America was transformed from the numerous consequences that came from 9/11. Despite the attacks, the leaders and our nation came together for support and comfort.
September 11. 2001 was a major turning point in American History, and its political and social impact can still be felt today. The tragic event shook the entire country on the civilian and federal level. Before 9/11 many did not think that a plan of terrorism such as that of Osama Bin Laden's would be able to come to fruition because they had great trust in American security. The destruction came as a wakeup call to the federal government and American citizens themselves. National Security became the first thing people thought of when they traveled, and civilians looked to the government for reassurance that they were safe. The federal government's plan of action was to pass a series of acts that would go on to create the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Association. Along with the creation of more strict security measures came the question of "who is a terrorist?" within the country. The formation of the DHS, TSA, and increase of Islamophobia are some examples of the lasting effects that 9/11 had on the country.
The most obvious change sense 9/11 is U.S airport security and regulations. One of the biggest reasons why 9/11 was such a success for the Al-Qaeda group hijacking of the planes was 100% the airports unsuccsessful security. They were able to board the planes and go through metal detectors at the checkpoint. Thats why just a few short months after 9/11 occured the United States declared the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) is improving public safety while traveling through major transportation areas like airports. Many major airports have TSA, meanwhile some not so large airports have private agencies that are similar to TSA. Americans have had to undergo significant changes in their travel habits and this change seemed to be the
A few things did change after this event in the United States. The first is the way we travel through the airport and borders is very different.
How the 9-11 attacks changed america 9-11 has changed America's view on terrorism. Not only our view of the islamic culture but immigration and how strict we are with security, not just with airports but with events with high amounts of people in one specific area. It happened with Alceda that most people didn’t even know about them. Osama Bin Laden wanted to have an impact on America and they didn't have the weapons for attacking the army. They wanted the whole world to be afraid of them because since america is a strong country it would make every country fear the Alceda and tried to make the U.S weak. Approximately 2,977 innocent adults and children and also 343 new york firefighters and 23 police officers were killed with the collapse with the building and the planes hitting the buildings.
After 9/11 everything changed in america, the way we think and perceive thing or people. American national security state went to the extreme, what we search online, who we talk to, what we bring to airport is all montred. George W. Bush and his people did not wait to call on war against theses country over a terrorist group. in these countries there are millions of innocent people yet their life are put on a line to kill one man, one
The United States has changed since September 11th, 2001 because after the incident, new changes in airport security were made. The changes in security was because before the hijack of the two planes the 19 terrorists that were onboard got away with easily smuggling box cutters and knives through security at three east coast airports. With the weapons that were smuggled onto the planes, it rose certain security measures as to keep from what happened at the world trade center to happen again. With the weapons that were smuggled onto the airplanes led to the decision that congress made to pass the aviation and transportation security act, it created the transportation security administration for each airport. It was a must to have a new and improved security for the nations to avoid any terrorist attacks to happen. Because of not having
A few changes on america post 9/11 were american citizens have been heavily influenced by the ideals from well known terrorist groups, ongoing wars, and even hostile feelings towards the muslim community and even those who look muslim despite the fact that they themselves aren't muslim
The state of our country, the safety we have come to know as an ingrained American feeling is now gone. The terrifying events that brought down the towers of the World Trade Center, killing thousands of innocent people on September 11, 2001, is a day that will forever be remembered in our history. The hijacking of planes by the acts of terrorist forever changed airport security, the view of turban-wearing Sikhs forever changed how most Americans view them, the fighting of a war in the Middle East for more than a decade, all are changes that we faced and are still facing due to the violent mastermind of Osama Bin Laden. That Tuesday morning, which started off like any other day, leaves us with many lingering questions, many children who
This was because of the fact that, for the first time since Pearl Harbor, citizens realized the terrifying thought that evil things could occur on home soil. This unexpected factor of the attacks on the Twin Towers shocked Americans into being more wary of their surroundings, and people were frightened. Americans today still fear the possibility of terrorist actions taking place. Even though Americans have gone throughout their lives feeling safer now than they did directly after nine eleven, considering the fact that there have been advances in the technology, the fear directly under the seemingly happy surface is eminent (Poladian). It seems that the overall psychological effect on Americans following nine eleven is the largest and continually growing effect that is still present in today’s
Firstly, one of the effects is airport and aircraft security, which has changed very significantly by September 11. Prior to this event security had been controlled by each airport, which entrust to personal security companies. However, according to Transportation Security Administration (n.d.), the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) was created to tighten of the security of the nation’s transportation system in 2001 after September 11. Before September 11 happens airport security was very simple. For example, the security did not scan all of passenger’s baggage and passengers could bring sharp things to the airplane such as sharp scissors and kitchen knives for cutting food. However, now all baggage must be a x-rayed and passengers required to walk through metal detectors.
