In years past, if someone asked me about my future ambitions, I could not give a secure answer. I am still uncertain today towards how the next thirty years will pan out. However, I have thought about my idea of a successful life. I want a family to call my own; I need a steady, full-time job that I enjoy. I especially never want to stop learning or advancing my hobbies and myself. Above of all else, I will consider my life successful as long as I am happy and satisfied.
My constant goal of happiness matches the American Dream of the 1950s: a perfect family living in the perfect house, working a full-time job. I decided to join the healthcare field, and I will major in nursing when I continue with my post-secondary education. Through numerous volunteering opportunities at my local hospital, I believe nursing is the right career for me. I felt excited every time I volunteered, and there was a sense of comfort in the hospital setting. My dream career is a pediatric nurse practitioner because I enjoy interacting with young children and I want to provide healing for the sick. I want to reflect back and feel accomplished with the children I have healed.
To become a nurse practitioner, I must receive my DNP, the doctorate of nursing practice. This degree will be a success in my life because it will show my continuous pursuit of education. I treasure my academics and my education, and I want to continue to learn as I grow older. I believe that my ideal career is a nurse practitioner because it requires extending past a bachelor’s degree, obtaining more education in the process.
