The career that I decided to do my research on is a Political Scientist. I chose this career because it’s something I would want to do for the rest of my life. Politics has a great role in American society. As a political scientist you make the people’s voices heard and help up hold the foundations of democracy; whether that is as an elected official, or as an analyst helping senators make key decisions on a bill about to pass in their state, Political scientists make a difference.

During the 19th century, the first large scale training of political scientists began at Johns Hopkins University. The keystone schools and professors that really launched political science as a true study were: Woodrow Wilson at Princeton University, Albert Bushnell Hart at Harvard, and William Dunning at Columbia. During the Progressive Era (1890-1929) in the U.S. political science became known as a prestigious university major and was highly studied by the high social class in the United States. In 1903, The American Political Science Association is established, which is still today the largest association of political scientists. The formation of this faction shows that political science by 1903 was starting to become a legitimate study and that the profession has modernized from its roots.
