Scores of consumers are discussing the two well-known reading tablets called the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet. Shoppers are trying to determine which e-reader offers the best quality and features. After conducting an objective study, considerable elements were accurately established in relation to these products. The Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet have many similarities; however, they show noticeable differences within the content, ease of use, battery life, and storage.
The greatest difference between these two products is in relation to content. The Kindle Fire has a generous selection of applications whereas the Nook Tablet‘s

The Kindle Fire offers 8 GB of internal memory. After it is configured, the Kindle Fire is shown to have 6GB for buyers to maneuver and stage-manage as they desire. In addition, the Kindle Fire provides a handy online tool labeled as Cloud Storage which allows unlimited storing capabilities to Kindle and Amazon users. In contrast, the Nook Tablet advertises 32 GB of internal storage but after a full-review of the Nook Tablet, only a lone gigabyte is available for optimal use; the other 12 GB are set aside for content which can only be purchased from Barnes and Nobles stores (Johnston, 2011). However, the Nook Tablet gains some position for having an (empty) micro SD card slot available for its users. After weighing up the difference between the storage within these gadgets (coming in their original form) the Nook Tablet 's storage appears to be somewhat deceptive (Moz, 2011).
In terms of deception the storage wasn 't the only feature that misled buyers of the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire. After a careful examination of the battery function on either tablet, the battery life duration for each e-reader had to be determined by more than one factor. The Nook Tablet offers nine full hours of battery use. The Kindle Fire advertises seven and a half hours of battery life when in reality it provides no more than six full hours (Johnston, 2011). The Kindle Fire’s battery lasts longer only if the user is reading an
Amazon has created a value product that resolves around services over the device itself, known as the Kindle Fire. With the emergence of e- readers, various competitors immediately offered iterations of the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet. The CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, must decide and define its most promising target segments and positioning of the Kindle Fire against competing products in the market.
The alluring idea of being able to access so many books at the click of a button is enough to drive any book-worm crazy. The next step is to choose which God-given device to pick. The futuristic and tempting slogan on the Kindle website reads, “It’s not screen time - it’s book time.” On the Nook
The Kindle fire, from the house of Amazon is a great new offering in the e-reader market. Amazon is the world's largest online retailer and a well known name in the world of books. With the launch of kindle fire, Amazon has now taken the experience of reading a book to the next level. Kindle fire is a real treat for a book lover. With millions of books available for download from Amazon, you can now carry a virtual library around wherever you go. You can read your favorite books, newspapers, magazines and pdf files on the go. And the sleek and sturdy design of the tablet makes a great fashion statement too.
“Imagine a tablet, maybe half an inch thick, shaped when held one way like an open book or magazine, when turned sideways much like a single page of a newspaper. It weighs six ounces. It’s somewhat flexible, which makes it easy to transport. Its screen, utterly glare-free, neither flickers nor fades nor grows dull” (Okrent 579). This is a description of a tablet Okrent saw back in 1999. That doesn’t seem too far off from what’s available today. Actually, it sounds a little better. Okrent later makes a good comparison in the format in which cell phones are sold today and how tablets may be similarly sold in the future. He argues it’s less about the vessel and more about the content in which they wish to sell you on that vessel. As cell phone companies do when
FROM PHYSICAL BOOKSTORES TO VIRTUAL ONES: BARNES & NOBLE VERSUS AMAZON.COM Over the past several years, Barnes & Noble has struggled to compete with consumers shopping online for books on Amazon.com. The opening of Amazon.com revolutionized the e-commerce and it started with books. Not only has Amazon.com been detrimental to Barnes & Noble with its ability to provide physical books, but Amazon is also publishing e-books directly, cutting the middleman. Barnes & Noble used to be the pinnacle of the book trade.
The new product introduction (new version of Kindle Fire) maybe faced by a number of potential risks from its production initiatives. The first risk is associated with costs that were not expected. In every project that is initiated, planning encompasses expected costs; the rise of unexpected costs can hamper the continuity of such a project. The new version of Kindle Fire may be hampered by costs that were not planned for yet essential for the completion of the project. Such costs may be due to aspects such as development of new version of operating systems that calls for additional hardware. Such hardware might not have been planned for hence delivery of a product with such hardware may not be appealing in the market. The next risk is associated with increased features that may make it complicated to operate (Kim, 2011). In the new world of rapid dynamism, it is required to develop a complex technology yet simple to use. In a situation where the new Kindle Fire version has complicated features and still complicated to use, it is possible to have the introduction of the new product successful. There are also the risk of new marketing and financial strategies. The new Kindle Fire might require a different approach in terms of marketing and financial moves that might not be the norm for Amazon. Amazon will thus be faced by the risk of developing the new financial and marketing strategies. Another probable risk is delays that weaken the continuity of the project such as
Teachers are always assigning homework in the textbook and of course every student complains. Not only because they have homework, but because they have to lug home multiple textbooks. Many school districts have been trying to find a way to solve this complaint. What school board officials have come up with is replacing the textbooks with notebook computers or tablets. It is the 21st century, there is technology booming everywhere. However, converting the notebook computers might not be the greatest decision.
Tablets can help students improve their learning by providing digital textbooks and educational apps for students to use that are affordable and convenient. Tablets can hold hundreds of books on a device, plus homework, quizzes, and other files. Fortunately, it eliminates the need for physical storage of books and classroom materials. The average tablet has anywhere from 8 to 64 GB of storage space. For example, when using an iPad it can hold up to 1,000 books per GB depending on the size of the book. Top K-12 publishers such as
When looking at technology people look for certain criteria when it comes to evaluating the specific electronic device they want. Tablets in my opinion are way better than laptops only because they are less bulky; they are thin which makes tablets more versatile, their battery life lasts longer than a laptop, and ipad tablets have special programs a laptop doesn’t obtain. Tablets have advanced over the years. Look at Apple for instance, they came out with the iPad mini and now they came out with an iPad with a retina display that means that the screen has sufficient pixel density, which means that the screen is brighter and clearer. Laptops may have a bigger screen but I don’t see laptops advancing like tablets do these days.
There are so many options available when it comes to deciding anything with technology. From cell phones to computers and Androids/Windows to Apple. There are different sizes, features, styles, and even amount of storage. Knowing which one is right for or making a decision on which one to purchase can be very frustrating.
I have been in love with books my entire life. The feel of them, the smell, the weight in your hand, the different sizes and shapes. It is not just the reading, but the entire sensory experience. My shelves are stuffed with them, and stacks of books pop up all over the house. I am planning on becoming a librarian in a few years, a dream come true. One might think that someone so obsessed with books would be dead set against e-readers and e-books, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Amazon’s Kindle made its debt in 2007. I have to admit I wasn’t a fan at first. And I did not even purchase one until 2011, but I have grown to appreciate the portability and ability to choose any book I want in an instance. The Kindle is an amazing product, opening up a world of reading to those who may not otherwise had access, or the interest to read. The following brief summary will give you an overview of how the Kindle came to be an important addition to a book lover’s collection.
Although not as much storage as the recent edition of the Nook, older versions of the device have two gigabytes of memory; therefore readers can obtain 1,500 novels of their choice, and a memory card increases the storage capacity up to 16 gigabytes for avid readers needing an excessive surplus of books (rlaforme 1). While novels are the most popular item downloaded for Nooks, reading materials such as newspapers, textbooks, and magazines can also be purchased for the enjoyment of the reader. Since travel is unpredictable and often stressful, a Nook allows people to take their entire library with them during their journeys throughout the world. Whether flying on a plane or cruising aboard a ship, Nook owners can conveniently carry their collections of reading materials in a lightweight 11.2 ounce eReader, and they also can connect to the Internet throughout their travels (rlaforme 1). Rather than carrying multiple books to enjoy during a two week vacation at the beach, Nook owners are empowered to pack one portable device to transport them through their fictional journeys. Even though a Nook’s mobility is an important benefit to its owners, the manageable downloading feature makes the device worthwhile.
The Kindle is an e-reader primarily owned by Amazon, but has many manufacturers (1). The first e-reader on the market was the Ectaco jetBook (2). In 2004, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, demanded his representatives produce the best e-reader, better than all the competition could (3). The Amazon kindle was created to fulfill this gap in Amazons products. The Amazon kindle has revolutionised reading, giving readers an unlimited access to any genre of books. Even though this technology has many benefits, it is debatable as to whether it is the future of the reading industry. An analysis of the kindle exposes its multifaceted production and complex reception, as well as its future in the modern world.
E-books and e-ink readers have a number of weaknesses when compared to a more traditional paper book. Most of these are addressed by the Kindle in one way or another but one of them that had not yet been addressed was the ability to loan books. One of the great things about owning a great book is recommending it to friends and letting them read it. Amazon has made a first step towards fixing that problem though it is not a perfect first step. First is understanding what you can do. Amazon will allow you to loan a Kindle book for 14 days. During that time you will not be able to read the book yourself. In addition you will only be able to loan Kindle books which have that feature enabled and you will only be able to loan a book once. Finally, if your not in the USA you are currently not able to do this at all. These limitations are almost certainly concessions with publishers, but they still limit the value of these service considerable. In order to loan a book you need to open amazon.com and go to the manage your kindle section. There you will be able to see all of the books that you have bought from amazon. Next to each of the books is a + sign to expand. Click that and you will see more information. If you are able to loan it there will be a button there which says 'Loan this book". Click on that and you 'll enter the email address of the person you want to loan the book to. You will also need to enter your name and have the option of adding a personal note. If you
During my last flight I eased into my seat, fastened my seat belt and prepared for take-off. Once in the air I took my full sized laptop out of it's' carrier and carefully situated it on my seat tray. As I searched for a movie to watch I took a look around to see almost every other person watching movies on their iPads. As I waited for my movie to boot up, I leaned over to get a better look at my neighbor's iPad. That thing was nice. Beautiful picture, compact and lightweight, then I glanced back at my big, slow laptop. I knew it was time for an upgrade. Net book or Tablet I wanted something small and light but I needed something that could handle movie streaming and strong graphics. Net books are small and they travel beautifully but you can forget about movies and television watching on those tiny babies. Net books are great for surfing the web and social networking. They are also awesome for getting work done while on the go but they are not a complete package. Tablets on the other hand are very small and light, most
