The science-fiction film, Star Wars, has a had a significant impact on modern culture today as it relates to Greek mythology and religion. The popular film created by George Lucas uses many symbols to demonstrate the similarities between the movie and culture, such as the Tusken Raiders and the Nio. Fortunately, Star Wars stays open to all religions, allowing for different interpretations of all characters. The concepts presented in the movie allow for all viewers to further their knowledge of religion and understand the past in a more logical way.
A similarity between Star Wars and religion are heralds and R2-D2. A herald was someone who carried a message, sometimes causing an adventure to begin. In the religion of Christianity, Matthew was a herald because he shared how Jesus, rejected by Israel, sent the disciples to preach the gospel to the world. In Star Wars, R2-D2 delivered the message that Princess Leia was in trouble and she needed help from Obi Wan Kenobi. This lead Luke Skywalker on an adventure to figure out who Obi Wan Kenobi was and why Princess Leia was in trouble. Therefore, both heralds and R2-D2 represent the messengers needed in order for a quest to unfold.
Another comparison between Star Wars and religion are the Nio and the Tusken Raiders. According to Japanese tradition, the Nio were a group of guards that protected the Buddhist temples from those trying to enter. Today, two muscular structures stand in front of some of the Buddhist temples in East
Close connections can be made from Greek Mythology into pop culture, especially into fictional stories such as Star Wars. Introduced to the world in 1977, Star Wars was a cultural phenomenon that took the whole world by storm. It broke new ground in cinematic storytelling, visual effects, and what a director could do with a film, paving the way for many other great films to come. The world of Star Wars is also rich with history and lore, and a lot of that can be connected to Greek Mythology. Two main characters in Star Wars are Luke and Leia Skywalker, twins who are separated at birth but eventually reunite on their journeys to defeat the dark side.

Can two items be drastically different, but still attract a large audience? Most people would say yes, but is this limited to television programs? It’s definitely not, nor is it limited to the ownership by the same company. Star Wars productions with completely different aspects receive a great amount of popularity all the time. Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, while similar in many ways, are vastly different programs. Star Wars the Clone Wars is an animated television program that was released in 2008 on cartoon network. While Star Wars Rebels is also an animated program, but was release in 2014 on Disney Channel. Despite their differences, the two shows are immensely popular and will create a legacy in the Star Wars universe. Most notably, the Clone Wars and Rebels differ in animation, improvement as time went on, and their length, yet the two come together to form a fan favorite production.
Myths and religious doctrine are generally recognized as two entirely different things. Myths are usually referred to as a fictitious story or a half-truth; often they are stories shared between groups of people that are part of a cultural society. Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, and purpose of the universe, and often containing an ethical code dictating appropriate human conduct. Although they differ in certain aspects, they still hold similarities. Comparable to parables within the Bible, myths have different versions which are both motivating, as well as entertaining. There are not only parallels to the idea of the stories but specific tales hold similar morals and equivalent characters.
Greek mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. Modern scholars refer to, and study, the myths, in an attempt to throw light on the religious and political institutions of Ancient Greece, its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself.

Religion has played a very important role in society and the history of mankind for over thousands of years. Originally created by ancient peoples as a way to explain the unknown, religion has greatly evolved and spread across the globe. As new religions have formed and spread, the diversity and similarities between these new religions have also increased, especially due to their geographic locations. Two civilizations in particular with both similar and distinct religions are ancient China, and ancient Egypt. Ancient Chinese religion and ancient Egyptian religion share many things in common with each other, yet at the same time they are
Religion has been a major focal point in any society and in any culture. Starting from the first civilizations in Sumer and Ur to the vast metropolitans of today like New York and London, religion has been around and played a key part in lives of people. Possibly two of the oldest religions in the world, Judaism and Zoroastrinism share distinct qualities that are still alive today. Both religions are practiced but Zoroastrianism is not as popular as it once was. Meanwhile, Judaism is one of the world’s largest religions. These two religions are similar in the way that they are designed and practiced throughout history.
Greek Mythology is a collection of myths and teachings that originated from the ancient Greeks. Star Wars is series of the fantastic films that depict the political tensions and wars among the representatives of different planets in the distant galaxy. The films include a number of positive heroes and charismatic anti-heroes, such as Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo). Being inspired by the example of Darth Vader, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa has decided to follow the path of his grandfather.
The Hero’s journey, or in its more correct terminology the Monomyth is an object from the area of comparative mythology. Its definition in the most basic of forms, it is a pattern or outline that is used in storytelling, usually the myth. This pattern is found in many famous pieces from all around the world. In the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces from 1949 by author Joseph Campbell, this pattern is described in detail. Campbell describes that numerous myths from different times and areas of the world seem to share an identical structure in their storytelling. He summarized this with a well-known quote found at the intro of his book:
In conducting my research on Star Wars, I wanted to make sure that I kind of found a variety of sources. I decided to do my field report on Star Wars originally because I was aware that I needed to include an interview component in this report. I immediately thought of my R.A., who just happens to be an incredibly huge Star Wars fan. I knew that I would have to investigate some element of the movies and religion has always been a very controversial topic within the Star Wars "universe". To research the topic I went through the IU Libraries Database and retrieved articles about Lucas and his beliefs about religion and about pop culture spirituality and the movies in general. I also held an
Motion Pictures have always had a strong influence in today’s culture, but maybe none as prevalent as Star Wars. Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and 6, all generally released in the 1980s. As one of the strongest film francaises still today, it’s impact within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new edition of this seemingly endless journey. If any singular film series still holds prevalence in its future decades it is Star Wars: Original Trilogy.
