Salva keeps going even though he was devastated when he lost his friend Marial. Salva explained the loss of his friend as: “A cold fist seemed to grip Salva’s heart”(pg 38). He also kept going even though his uncle was shot dead. His beloved uncle who protected him, guided him, and loved him, was gone. “Now that Salva was without Uncle’s care and protection, the group’s attitude toward him changed”(pg 65). Salva faces traumatic events while crossing the river, he watches people get shot and killed. Later, Salva learned that thousands had died trying to cross the river, either drowned or shot or attacked by crocodiles (pg 79). After crossing the river only a few boys were alive, so Salva led the young boys to shelter. The boys kept walking, and walking till they found a safe
It took 648 miles to walk from Southern Sudan to Ethiopia. Salva did this on an empty stomach with no food or water. Do you think you would survive in a 100 degree weather with no food or water, with the same cloths that you been wearing for a year? Because salva did. In the book “A Long Walk to Water” written by Linda Sue park, she talks about Salva's journey that took years and years to get to safety after the war stated. The war came to his village while he was in school he had to run to the bush with not knowing where is his family or even knowing if they are alive. Salva was running from the war for 24 years before he finally found safety in the united states. He was 11 when he started to run, he met a friend along the way but he sadly died due to being eaten by a lion. He also meant his uncle along the way which help Salva gain confidence that he was going to make it out alive, but again the uncle passed away due to three men shooting him, because he was trying to keep everyone safe. In this essay I am going to prove that we can learn to never give up even if things are at the worst point possible and if you take things one step at a time you will get through whatever you are struggling with. The key aspects I am going to be talking about are how did Salva learn never give up and even when salva is at his worst he never gives up and still has hope that he is going to make it out alive. My first body paragraph I am explaining how salva never gave up.

In A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen Gerta and her family are divided by the Berlin Wall. Gerta’s oldest brother, Dominique, and father are in the west and Gerta her other brother, Fritz, and their mother are in the east. They decide to tunnel under the wall to get to the west for a better life and to get back to their family. This is their escape story. In the story, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Ruth raised her children as Jewish parents would’ve, even if she wasn’t aware of it. Like other Jewish families, she raised her children to be scholastic standouts. They were kept out of the public school system and kept in certain communities. Ruth was particular about the teachers who taught and disciplined them. She wanted he children to receive the best education.
Sadly, a group of nuer that was against the Dinka had killed salva's uncle."They buried uncle in a hole about two feet deep, a hole that has already been made by some kind of animal."(64) Not only did Salva loose Marial but he also lost the only family member that was close to him. Salva couldnt hold on to this forver. This was the best they couldve done for his uncle, bury him. There was no way that his unc couldve cam back to life so Salva had to get over this tragic event to keep going. Even though he was in shock, he kept on traveling the next day.He couldnt stop moving. He knw that in his heart. It was logical that he continued with the group, othrwise he wouldve been left behind as the group didnt care for him any more since his uncle died. Following his uncle's death, "..the group's attitude toward him changed."(65) they had all thought that he was too small and weak to go along with the group. So as predicted they've started to neglect him again. Even though times were tough, Salva still begged for scraps because it was all he was going to get and he had to accept that. One of Salva's goals was to reunite with his family again. But deep in his mind he always knew that ther was a possiblity that he could never see his family again bcause they couldve ben kileld. But slava nevr chose to accept that reality, instead he looked on the bright said and
After reading the novel and accounts of the experiences of the people of Southern Sudan during and after the Second Sudanese Civil War, write an essay that addresses the theme of survival by answering the question: What factors made survival possible for Salva in A Long Walk to Water?
The article Into the Dark Water by Lauren Tarshis is about when the most massive, high in technology, indestructible ship sunk. The Titanic of course. Also when passenger and survivor Jack Thayer shared his journey, through his writing with author Lauren Tarshis. It makes the article more intriguing to use quotes because it makes you feel as if you are on the ship on that night.
Salva the main character of “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park was an 11-year old boy when his village was attacked. His teacher urged him to run away from the village and to run to the “bush.” After that attack, his life made a turn for the worse. With no family around him, he was completely lost. During his journey, he had some problems, but overcame
His Uncle. Though he did not last very long, he was still a huge turning point for Salva and helped his urge to keep moving, just a step at a time. On one special day in Southern Sudan 1985, Salva was stood off from an unusual sound, his name. But who was it called him? Then the man came toward him, it was his Uncle Jewiir. His father’s youngest brother who he had not seen in two years. Soon later Uncle took full responsibility for taking care of Salva. “Listing to Uncle, hurrying to stay close to him. Salva was able to make his feet move despite the cold terrain that froze his whole body.” To add later on chapter seven, page 41 second part, “ Just one step at a time, just a day at a time.” Salva was closer to reaching his goal First part. These quotes relates to how Salva had lost almost everything, but he did not want to lose Uncle too. So he was trying to everything that he can, so that Uncle would not get out of his sight and to keep him with him. Salva was very cautious during the time he had Uncle because he was at least someone that would willingly take care of him and helped the person that he is. It was also for Uncle’s words that helped Salva for when he was stuck. So that Salva’s goal will not loosen from his grip like almost everyone had. During Salva’s childhood, he always felt better for when he had Uncle. He acted as Salva’s guardian angel, a person that Salva could trust and love. For what happened to
The author of Matthew’s Gospel was first thought to have been the same tax collector who was appointed by jesus to be one of his apostles. It is possible that the apostle was responsible for a prior account of this or he might have been a missionary in the area in which the gospel was written. Most scholars are a bit hesitant of the belief that the apostle Mark is the actual author and are rather more accepting that he was not the writer of this gospel. It had become pretty clear that whoever wrote this gospel had taken a lot of material from Mark which would make it hard to believe that the apostle Matthew had written it being that he lived way before Mark did. It is also hard to believe that a tax collector like the apostle Mark had the religious and literary education required to compose the gospel. The evangelist writing here was probably jewish writing for a predominately jewish christian audience. He was very knowledgeable of the Hebrew Scriptures and and the law, Torah. With all of this known it seems that Matthew’s gospel portrays the theological concerns of those of second generation christians. Location of the actual Matthean community which was believed to be made up of these second generation christians is a little bit of a mystery. Matthew constantly mentions the word “polis” pointing toward the high likelihood that this was an urban area. The oldest,
