A magnet is anything with a magnetic field. Magnets attract ferrous objects like pieces of steel, iron, nickel and cobalt. They slightly attract liquid oxygen and other materials and they slightly repel water, carbon and boron.
Magnets are made from a mineral called magnetite, one of earths rare minerals. Magnetite is a dark grey or black color and when in sunlight, it can have a tint of brown. Magnetite can be found in large amounts by beaches or shores. It is also known as lodestone. Magnetite was first found by a greek shepherd named Magnes.
