Introduction In modern society, IT (information technology) governance plays an important role in business development. Therefore a good IT organization is which match all the business need and also performance well to get lead in the industry. This report will analyze four sections related to WestJet Airlines case. First of all, the five specific areas in IT governance will be considered. Second, AS8015 model for IT governance will be defined, and a strong example will be discussed. The third part is about risk identification and control for WestJet Airlines’ IT operations. The last section will discuss how Smith manage the transformation propose. 1.1 Adding value Until now IT has become the significant role of execution within organization. The organization began when entrepreneur Clive Beddoe, president of Hanover Group of Companies purchased an aircraft for personal use. Beddoe later made his aircraft available to other business people through Morgan Air, owned and operated by Tim Morgan. Tim Morgan, along with Calgary businessmen Don Bell and Mark Hill found an opportunity to start an airline. They all reached out to David Neelman, who was president of Morris Air and asked for assistance on writing the business plan for WestJet. They joined forces and WestJet Airlines came to life. They all held a different position and Beddoe was the president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of directors. Bell and Morgan were senior vice-presidents and Hill was the vice president. When WestJet first began, they only flew to Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. They now fly to 102 destinations in 19 different countries. In addition, they also increased the amount of aircraft they own. WestJet began in 1996 with just two aircraft and by August of 2000, they increased to 94 aircraft. Not only did they increase aircraft, but employees too. Team #3 in their presentation made special mention to the IT Governance and explained trough the presentation how this element allows the managers from Bombardier to bridge the gap between control requirements, technical issues and business risks within the organization. Moreover, when the project went live, the continuous monitoring of the process involve in the system and the comparison of actual results with the ones planned are the perfect examples of a proper application of IT Governance by Bombardier. For the IT Management area, I put a low level of risk assessment. For the information technology management, the company has a specific IT strategic plan, which is consistent with the Company’s strategic plan. In addition, based on the company’s organization cart, I found out the company have a clear reporting and response system. The responsibility for chief information officer clearly classified to four parts, application, operation, information security and database administration. Above all the key aspects we take a review about IT management, the company have a good internal controls for it. There is unlikely happen a risk in this area.

This portfolio focus on what I have learned during the whole IT Strategy and Control paper, a critical reflection of this paper would be provided. This reflection includes the key points, support reference and the demonstration of my own understanding about the paper itself and all of my personal understandings are based on the learning outcome of this paper. In the first part of this portfolio, I would discuss all the key IT Operations Management framework which have been introduced in the paper, the analysis of the processes based on my own understanding would be given. In the second part, analyze processes required for aligning IT infrastructure and operations with the business goals of an organization would be talked about, and I would focus a business organization which has been mentioned in the caselets as a sample. In the third part, some critical evaluate operational IT organizations and their processes against the studied models would be listed and analyzed. In the last part, the recommendations and analysis of my own would be given against those organizations (caselets) which have some problems and current issues arising from the implementation of the IT framework.
