It is quite impossible for a student to do his/her PhD in isolation. PhD is a research degree and prime objective of the PhD research is to contribute to building scholarship of a field of study. As in most cases, PhD students should work with a mentor or a group of mentors building networks is necessary to facilitate such collaborative ventures in the academia.
In order to build networks in my field, I approach my mentors and fellow researchers whether I can be a part of their research. Apart from that I always look for the opportunities to attend conferences and seminars to be introduced with scholars in the field of my interest. Conference and seminars are very useful means to build networks as many scholars share their contacts and research interests to each other. I pick those scholars from the conference brochures whose research interest matches with my own interests. I try to contact them after the conference and show my interest to collaborate with them in publishing.
It is important to think about network density while managing networks and getting desired results of those. I have been able to keep full network density while building and managing networks with the scholars working in academia. Comparing to that, networks with practitioners, community workers and other professionals are not that much dense. It is quite natural for me to have more density in academic networks as I work in academia and prefer to build cross relationships with other people in
There is no clear representation of how diverse my network is due to it being a sample of 10 followers from 830 followers from my profile. In addition, on an everyday basis one can see that my profile reduces the number of followers this is due to not constantly keeping up with social media, which in this matter is Instagram and people tempt to unfollow. Analyzing data from a social media standpoint would be a misrepresentation for my diversity level within my network due it being a sample of the population and not using Instagram on
A network is a person or group of people you go to for help. If you’re in a situation where someone is getting bullied, you need to look for a help network, such as a trusted adult. There are many different types of help networks. When you’re in the situation where you need a help network, then you may look for a different help network than what your friend would. Let’s say your friend is looking for a person that has a phone and looks constantly distracted by it because they will be able to call for help easier than someone without a phone, but you look for a person that looks like they have a phone and they are most likely willing to actually listen to the problem that you’re having. That’s 2 different types of help networks. Although they may not look like they are a good and reliable help network, that doesn’t mean they can’t help

For my job search, I was able to speak with a family friend who is currently in the industry I am interested in. I knew her advice was trustworthy and honest due to our relationship. Her opinion was unbiased to a role/company, so I wasn’t feeling pressured or swayed. I was able to be vulnerable and very curious. I could truly pick her brain. Your network can be a resource for several different reasons:
As I completed this assignment, I realized some very important things. First off, having a good, complete network is a must if you want to accomplish your goals. In other words, relationships hold the key to a person’s future success. These networks keep you informed, teach you new things, make you more innovative, give you a sounding board to help you flesh out ideas with others and help you get things done when you are in a hurry and you need a favor. The other thing I learned is, just because I know that a network is important for my success, that does not mean that I am devoting sufficient time and energy to making it useful and strong. Connectivity, breadth and dynamism
As a Registered Nurse, I have the opportunity to collaborate with different people from various departments. My job does not end at bedside; it extends as far as interacting with family members, physicians, pharmacists, nursing supervisor, security officers, etc. My social network map (Figure 1) reflects my interactions with fellow employees at the hospital. This map reflects two-days time sample. My map includes a legend that explains each interaction. My interactions include phone, face-to-face, e-mail, electronic (IT), as well as individuals that I interact with both on the phone and face-to-face basis. On this diagram, I used job titles instead of actual names in
Students are able to network while in school by attending Meet the Firms Night, participating in on campus interviews, by attending open houses, by attending the professional speaker series hosted by BAP, and by maintaining a proactive outreach. They then gave several additional example of how to network once an individual was in his or her career.
Many of the new forms developed are a direct relationship between self-organization and network. The inner workings of the organization help to develop a massive network. Thus, increasing the number of quality relationships with other business, organization, or school districts. The development of networks is invaluable to any organization. Business managers, principals, superintendents, and etc. use their networks to ensure that the organization, or school they are crafting is one that will represent success.
According to Hope College, “networking is the best way to find a job” (Hope College). Merriam-Webster dictionary explains that networking is the development of productive relationships for employment or business (Merriam-Webster). Information from Hope College expressed that a study of the Department of Labor showed that networking benefits for almost seventy percent of all yearly hires (Hope College). McGuire reported that the more connections that one has accumulated, the more opportunities they will have once they begin to start searching for a job
The strategy of creating connections allows for your blog to exposure from not only your follower's blog, but their followers as well. I branched out to the types of blogs that I knew are typically attracted to mine. I also began looking into blogs that acted as what I call a "poetry federation" as several users united to form one larger blog. These are very popular so submitting to them or becoming friendly with a member or two is a great way to garner more attraction for your blog. Using these methods, I was sure I would gain plenty of new
According to the book, networking is a way to share information and help others. Networking is not a way to ask for a job. Networking is based on building and maintaining relationships. You must remain in contact with these individuals because you never know the opportunities that may arise because you have established these kinds of relationships. You also must be sure to keep them very professional and not cross any boundaries that could be damaging to the network you have established with these
I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DPN) graduate student at Brandman University located in the city of Irvine, California. I used a three-day sample of my contacts in my workplace, to create a social network map (Figure 1). The data collection time is representative of my daily work time as a Nurse Practitioner at Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo, Inc. My
One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people to understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation could also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. As my previous placement was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was difficult to find new contacts. This
Network analysis is a visual representation of what needs to be done, and when it needs to be done. Networks are basically a technique to help management in the planning and control of projects. They also show relationships between the different tasks that need to be accomplished. Networks are not only useful for planning and controlling, but they can provide a means of communication between the various
Creating a basic social network for Cal Poly will offer a more effective pathway of communication than email, creating an online community between faculty and the student community. As Cal Poly’s Administration, I’m sure communicating with every student is one of the biggest concerns, and building a social network will unlock several possibilities to accomplish that. Moreover, Cal Poly’s overall reputation as an engineering school will be skyrocketed with the news of implementing a social network [1]. For example, Milwaukee School of Engineering not only reached acceptance goal five months early, but also increases the productivity
