(3)There have been vast amounts of research that has been conducted on the therapeutic partnership, and researchers have discovered a wide array of challenges in forming these relationships. These challenges are especially true among physical therapists and their patients. Patients in physical therapy experience their own challenges like temporary, chronic and permanent states of pain and disability (Sargeant & Newsham, 2012). Physical therapy patients are already in very vulnerable state and may be reluctant to form partnerships with their therapists. Many issues physical therapists run into when forming partnerships include: difficult patients, time constraints of the clinical environment and a negative culture or environment in the clinic (Bayliss & Strunk, 2015). These constraints put on the physical therapist prevent the formation of healthy partnerships by obstructing the physical therapist’s ability to demonstrate care. This inability to show care can greatly damage the relationship, and in turn be detrimental to treatment. Studies have found that the relationship between a clinician and a patient can account for up to half of the effects of therapy (Hall, Ferreira, Maher, Latimer & Ferreira, 2010) and that the patient-therapist relationship is more important to success than treatment techniques (Roberts, Whittle, Cleland & Wald, 2013). These studies demonstrate that the benefits of rehab rely not only on expert care, but also on the partnership between the clinician
My first experience observing a physical therapist, commenced in the summer of 2014. At the time, I was given the opportunity to observe a physical therapist named Jennifer Moreland. Throughout my time observing her, I began to recognize she was not just a physical therapist with her patients. Many times, she took on the role of a consoler, cheerleader, friend and supporter for her patients. Reflecting back on this, I am able to see that the primary reason she has succeeded as a physical therapist; is due to her amiable, encouraging and empathetic nature. These character traits have allowed her to do more than heal patients' musculoskeletal problems. She has also been able to heal hearts, souls and minds by cheering, supporting, listening
Life can change in a split second when an unanticipated injury or disease hinders someone’s normal daily life. Modern medicine, physicians and families can only do so much but physical therapy can help recoup the life many of us take for granted. It often isn’t until we lose something that we as humans realize what we had such as the value of our body’s ability to take us through each day. A physical therapist is the person who stays with a patient for the duration of the rehabilitation process. A physical therapist leads the patient through the process of regaining physical strength and helps the patient regain control of their future. Much like many careers that involve interaction with individuals, physical therapy reaches beyond
Ever since I was young my life goals were to help others when I grew up, however I wasn’t exactly sure how. Throughout the past couple years, with a wonderful support system; I have been able to make the decision about wanting to achieve the goal of becoming a physical therapist. It is my belief that I have a high spiritual calling to be a physical therapist, because I have the intention to be able to guide others. I gather that this can be spiritual, because helping others is what God’s intentions are, and would recommend others to follow in His footsteps. My mindset is indeed compassionate, empathetic, selfless, and strong with a thirst for knowledge. Being a physical therapist has many rewards such as happiness, equality, and a sense of accomplishment which can be very valuable and will affect my life in a positive manner.
The day-to-day writing in the field of Physical Therapy varies depending on the audience. The audience determines the purpose of the writing and writing style. Physical Therapists (PT) use evidence-based exercises and activities to rehabilitate their patients in order for them to reach their unique goal. Since PT’s work with both medical professionals and patients, they must adjust their writing to be able to communicate effectively. PT’s are just one of the many people in the medical field that may work with a particular patient so it is important that the communication between the different layers of the medical field are precise and clear. Writing to a patient is also important because they are the person who is being directly affected
1.What is physical therapy? Physical therapy is difficult sometimes it just depends on which one you would like to do. There are many different types of Physical Therapy. There's Orthopedic Therapy, Pediatric Therapy, Wound Care therapy, Cardiopulmonary Therapy , Sports Therapy and many more. Ever since I was a little kid,I loved working or helping elderly people there tons of fun once you get to know them. My mom has worked in nursing homes since I was born she would take me and my brother to work all the time and I would ask people if they needed help because it was fun. I knew I wanted to do something to help the elderly get better or help them feel like they are at home.I choose this career because I love working with people especially elderly people. So far I think this is a good career and it's meant for me.
Nursing and physical therapy deal with a lot of helping people recover from incidents that might of have happened to them or even give them the knowledge to help them prevent from that incident to happen again. It could've have happened during an athletic sport or even just trying to recover from a big surgery. I have been in one of these situation before. I had to go to physical therapy because of a dislocation during my football game. Ever since I recovered from my incident something just clicked in my mind and all I thought about was helping people. What better way to help people with injuries is to help them recover from them. My reasons why you should accept me into your University is because I am a hard worker, I take my learning seriously, and I am always on time.
Physical therapy has come a long way in the last couple of decades, literally transforming the way pain, functional limitations and recovery from surgery is treated. But just as with any other healthcare provider, it’s the people behind the front door - and their treatment philosophy - which makes the critical difference in the patient experience.
Does physical therapy have similar or better outcomes as total knee arthroplasty for knee osteoarthritis relief?
A topic that interests me is the field of physical therapy. Ever since I have been playing soccer since of the age of 3, I have always had many different injuries. This has made me want to help people while learning such a unique field. I have had different ankle and knee injuries and having a good physical therapist really makes a big difference in rehab. This also impacted my desire to want to be a physical therapist because being in that environment; it was really fun being in such a good atmosphere while people are usually scared to go to see a doctor. Physical Therapy is a perfect topic I will research in regards to injury and prevention, which is essential part of a PTs job.
Rehabilitation facilities often experience heavy caseloads, and staying as efficient as possible during these times can help a facility to get the most from its client base. When a current caseload is not as heavy as the professionals at a rehab clinic would prefer, finding effective ways to increase productivity is important. Whether you run a physical therapy clinic, an occupational therapy facility, or a speech pathology practice, you may be looking for ways to maximize productivity for your facility. By utilizing rehab therapy software, you might accomplish this more easily than you would expect.
A patient recovering from a stroke awaits for his nurse to come and watch him as he starts physical therapy on a Wii Fit. The nurse walks in and approves the patient to go ahead and start the video game. The patient gets started after just fifteen minutes, the patient gets hurt by playing. The patient is now delayed by an injury, like a sore ankle or a pulled hamstring can slow that patient’s therapy. This patient may be stubborn and not want to go to physical therapy again in fear of getting hurt again, or just the fact that an injury that takes a couple days to heal , can slow the patient’s therapy. That is just one little part of video games as physical therapy. In my opinion, hospitals should “shut down” video games as a form of physical therapy to help their
DISCUSSION: Patients with cancer can benefit from physical therapy intervention at any stage of treatment. The patient discussed exhibited improvements in almost every measurement taken in the period of 8 weeks. Her lower and upper extremity strength increased, her balance improved dramatically, her gait speed increased by a factor of 6, she was able to return some of her previous activities, and there were no signs of lymphedema development. In short, the patient decreased a variety of the side effects that are associated with cancer and cancer related treatments by receiving physical therapy. The side effects of cancer related treatments often limit patient independence and decrease overall quality of life.

It is clear that Tim and Ralph are in need of emotional/psychological support. They are also in need of a means for Tim to be able to swallow and breathe better or more easily. Third, is a concern for them that they can remain together and at their home (University of Vermont, n.d.). Achieving this will require that Ralph can help Tim with his treatment and that Tim be able to communicate in an understandable manner. It would therefore be necessary to schedule a visit with a social worker and also with a speech therapist to evaluate Tim’s swallowing, breathing, and speaking capabilities. Finally, a full physical examination would be required, and it would also be important to explore future prospects and start looking into end-of-life care decisions.
The human experience is not a vague suggestion of what everyone strives for. This is a very individualized set of preferences and priorities that each person desires in life. We are all unique beings and as a physical therapist, there is a duty to create a specific strategy of care that is centered on the needs of the consumer. Movement is the basis of everything we do. Optimizing movement by improving mobility and motion, managing pain, and regaining original capabilities will guide society to a healthier and more active lifestyle.
