San Francisco has a homelessness problem, yet that problem can be solved. The problem of homelessness in San Francisco can be observed by taking a stroll through an area such as the Tenderloin District or Haight Ashbury. In these places, homeless people are plentiful, yet they are almost always overlooked by the other San Franciscans who use those areas to work and play. Providing permanent housing (as opposed to places at shelters) to chronically homeless people has been proven to be an efficient method of combatting homelessness. I propose that San Francisco introduce a voluntary 10-cent tax on coffee, as a way of raising money to provide services to homeless people within permanent housing, and simultaneously raise awareness about the housing disparity within San Francisco.

Duffield uses logos to show why she believes that all federal agencies should use the same definitions for homelessness. The use of research in the article shows “…brain development makes clear that adverse experiences in childhood can have lifelong impacts on physical and mental health.” (2013, para. 7). Duffield makes a clear appeal that homelessness needs addressed to prevent the housing issues with youth, children, and that there are potentially greater risks for the future. She then goes on to show that if the same definition were used by all federal agencies “…then, with these homeless people eligible for assistance, local communities can assess people's relative needs, considering factors such as income, employability, barriers to housing, illness, disability and children's developmental delays” (2013, para. 5). By Duffield, using such statements she proves that changes with the law can help in many ways. The use of exhibits shows why she believes that all federal agencies should use the same definitions for homelessness.

Imagine living a life with no water, no food, no shelter, and wearing the same old clothes over and over again for the rest of your life. Homelessness is described as ‘The state of having no home’, however, it is much more than this. A home isn’t a place to sleep, it is where you feel comfortable, a place where you feel safe and protected; And although so many of us have the luxury of having a place we can call home, many don’t, in fact over 0.5% of people are homeless on any given night, while this may not seem much to you, however accounting for Australia’s population, over 255,657 people are homeless on any given night. This number is even more concerning when you discover that people under 18 years of age make up 27% of the homeless population to make matters worse over 17,845 children under 12 years old were counted as homeless. Every year hundreds of families, war veterans, and people with physical and mental handicaps are left homeless and on the streets. Many of these peoples are unable to work as a result of these disabilities and in today's economy unable to find jobs if they do have the ability to work. The government's response to this issue is through programs that help people find jobs or that establish affordable living situations for people in those situations. In order to fix homelessness, the american people must understand what is going on and how they can help, the government must issue welfare reform, and there needs to be more improvement in the northern part of the nation.

In my opinion, the United States should have more shelters to help the homeless people instead of spending money on unnecessary things. The growing homeless problem in the United States provides a problematic issue to resolve. In the article Camping for Their Lives by Scott Bransford, he explains to us what it’s like to be living in a tent city. The author discusses the circumstances of the makeshift homes that have increased in regularity on the Western Coast. He also relays the constant fear of government officials and lawlessness that comes along with living in these tent cities. The author’s thesis is that housing is no longer affordable in the United States. The homeless situation is a severe problem; however the author manipulates examples to portray a dire and unsolvable situation.

Who would have ever imagined years ago there would be so many people living out onto the streets. So many people just go on with their day to day lives not even paying attention to the struggling ones around them. There are some many people just walking past them every day without stopping to just asking them questions or even so just simply judging them. Ronald Davis- homeless Chicago man who had been living on the street for one year and a half as of April 2013 tells a heartbreaking story of surviving on the streets. He explain how he attempts to make his day to day living. Now this is just one of the 100 million estimated homeless people in the world. People tend to tell them to get a job, but how are they suppose to get a job if there is no phone to call them on? Or how are they supposed to get a job if the employer says that they are not dressed well enough. So, is there any room to ask what is there seriously being done to help homeless people?

Affordable Housing is the social problem and the social issue addressed by the social problem is homelessness. Homelessness is “an individual who lacks housing (without regard to whether the individual is a member of a family), including an individual whose primary residence during the night is a supervised public or private facility (e.g., shelters) that provides temporary living accommodations, and an individual who is a resident in transitional housing” (HHS, 2016).
