“A Rising Nation” Book Report “A Rising Nation”, by Kenneth C. Davis was published by Harper Collins in 2010. “A Rising Nation” would be most enticing to readers that have some previous knowledge of history in order to connect the information through history. This book may not provide new information for a scholar. However, they would be able to appreciate the more enjoyable format of the book compared to reading other texts. Kenneth C. Davis is a historian and an author from Mount Vernon, New York City. Davis’s book “Don’t know much about history” was New York Time best seller for thirty-seven weeks straight and “combined in-print total of some 4.7-million copies.” Davis went to Concordia College in Bronxville while he was living in New York. However, he didn’t graduate from Concordia; in fact, he never graduated from college. In 1998 Davis was awarded with an honorary doctorate from Concordia College in New York. In his interview summary on Don’t Know Much he states that he didn’t do too great in high school, but he did fairly well in college even though he didn’t graduate. With knowing Davis’s background, I am confident that Davis is capable of writing a proper information piece even though he didn’t graduate because I doubt Concordia College just hands out doctorate degrees. In his work of acknowledgements, Davis states “leaving the comfort landscape of the “Don’t Know Much About” series to write about American history in a different style and format was both
When it comes to the world stage of historical education and educators, Jackson Lears would be considered a major player because of his prowess and overall skill as a historian. Over the past few weeks of class, we have covered the first five chapters of our textbook, written by George Brown Tindell and David Emory Shi called, “America, A Narrative History.” Each chapter told the reader a narration of the history of America, as opposed to an expository version of America’s history. Each chapter had its own main idea over a portion of history, along with many details that cover the importance of the main idea. As a reader, one may obtain a deeper appreciation for the country 's history, prior to entering the class on the first day. The most important aspect of history, besides the battles that are fought, is the different cultures that make up today’s modern America.
Dinesh D’Souza wrote What’s So Great About America after the attack of September 11, 2001. After the attacks, most people grieved, even if they knew on one that died; however, people also banded together and fought against a group they thought were attacking them. He wrote this book so that pride for America would radiate from the people long after the attacks; that they also would not so easily forget what they did for the country.
The central idea of the”From war to america” by Kristen Lewis is Hope is stronger than fear. I know this because in the text it said, “By 2p.m., it had come clear that the family needed to leave. They headed down to the street, which was poked with bullet holes-only to find that their escape route would put them in full view of armed fighters. We didn't have time to think, francois says,we just ran.” This shows hoping to get out but they also are bevling that they can get out it might be scary but they have to get out. Also, i know the central idea is in the article is states” they leave because they have no choice:staying means putting their lives in danger.” This means that the are hoping to set out and not letting fear get in there way.
Our America by LeAlan Jones and LLoyd Newman makes readers feel bad about children deaths in Chicago which inspires people to help even though it makes readers feel bad.

One such author, poet Langston Hughes, wrote “Let America Be America Again.” Hughes is known for his portrayal of the African American life in America during the early to mid 1900’s. Hughes was born in 1902 in Missouri where his parents divorced when he was a young child. He was raised by his grandmother until his teenage years before he moved to live with his mother and her new husband. He was a college graduate from Lincoln University and was an award winning novelist. Another author, Edward McClelland, we don’t learn as much about. We know he grew up in an auto making town in the 1970s, a time during which middle-class America was strong and prosperous. McClelland tells us his ideology through personal experience, examples, and the use of some statistics. With our last author, meet D. Watkins, a college professor who has a master’s degree in education from John Hopkins University and an MFA in creative writing from the University of Baltimore. (3) We
In 1619, early American colonists began bringing in slaves from parts of Africa to aid in the production of tobacco and other crops. Abraham Lincoln became the President of the United States on November 6, 1860 and began to work towards ending slavery. The Birth of a Nation, which hit the big screen in 2016, is a historical film based on an enslaved Baptist preacher named Nat Turner who led the only successful slave rebellion in 1831. The making of this film has sparked a national controversy over its depiction of racism and a fictional rape scene.
1816: America Rising is a comprehensive, well-sourced and well-argued book centering on why the year 1816 was a pivotal moment in the history of the United States politically. After the Revolutionary War, a sprouting and unstable nation was left in the hands of the Founding Fathers. Among them rose a leader, George Washington, who became the first President of the United States. The 1790s were years filled with the nation’s leaders trying to find ways for the new country to become stable, how to handle the economy, and how to manage both manage domestic and foreign affairs. As each problem arose, so did the different opinions regarding handling of these issues. These powerful opinions lead to divisions between the country’s government and its people, known as political parties. The struggle to gain stability and control the potential power of the new nation was a difficult task for the political leaders in the

Maxwell’s perception of being a professor wasn’t everything he expected when he started teaching at a diminutive University. Stilman wasn’t all that Maxwell dreamt when teaching at the university he felt it was his imposition to teach college students how to become great journalist. Maxwell wanted to become a mentor just like they kind of mentors he had when he was a young teen. At Stilman University Maxwell’s experience wasn’t everything he expected as a college professor and the students welcomed him with impoliteness and discourtesy. This didn’t stop him from wanting to inspire young black lives.
By 1600, England’s feudal system was nearing extinction, as a new family (Tudor’s) came to power and wanted support from the middleclass and the establishment of new liberties for Englishman (i.e. trial by jury and no arrest without a warrant), which resulted in a large amount of local and self initiative to prosper in the community: yet many beggars now existed, culminating in an increased need for colonial expansion both for personal prosperity and more space for the existing population.
As a child, Davis practically had no say in determining his future. His father Samuel Emory Davis, although he wasn’t the most emotionally present, determined almost every aspect of his son’s life up to his death. It was he that sent Davis to boarding to school at a young age and choose what university he would attend. Even after the death of Samuel, Davis still did not take control of his life. His older brother Joseph became the next “placeholder” for the
In 2005, the three reports entitled Innovative America, Tapping America’s Potential, and Rising Above the Gathering Storm, argue that if the U.S. does not improve its science technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education the standard of living in the U.S. may decrease and threaten the economy and national security. The reasoning that the proponents use is that with more innovation and technological advancements, exports will increase and benefit the economy, but if there is no innovation this will harm the economy. The three reports, according to the Congressional Research Service, argue that in order to prevent these issues, we must close the academic achievement gaps in STEM, improve the quality of teachers, increase STEM labor supply, improve on international ranking assessments, produce more STEM degrees, and increase the number of H-1B visas issued. One of the most controversial subjects of the STEM movement is that companies are using H1-B visas to employ foreigners at cheaper rates rather than U.S. citizens. However, critics of the STEM movement argue that this is a strategic idea called “Brain Drain” where the U.S. is “draining” the most talented and skilled workers from other countries in order to gain an advantage on a global stage. In order for the U.S. to remain a leader in innovation and STEM education, the issue of H1-B visas needs to be addressed.
