"All right sweetie I'm off to work," my mother says searching around the kitchen counter. I looked up from the kitchen table and saw my mother searching for her keys and looked on the table. I spotted the keys quickly and picked them up and walked over to her. "Were you looking for this mom?" I took the keys from behind my back and shook them in front of her face. She grabbed them and looked at me, "where were they?" "On the kitchen table". "Thanks, sweetie" she kissed the top of my head, "I'll be gone until tomorrow morning if you get hungry I left some money on the counter for pizza" she walked into the living room and grabbed her bag for work. "Actually mom before you go I was going to see if I could stay over at Stacy's?" I walked over to her by the door and rocked back and forth on my feet, "please?" "Sure, only if she'll pick you up and go ahead and take the money and get pizza over there" she pulled me close and gave me a quick hug before she walked out the door yelling, "I love you!" "I love you too, don't work too hard mom!" I closed the door and went upstairs to call Stacy. I jumped on my bed and pulled my phone off the charger and gave her a call. Her phone rang for a few seconds and then she answered, "Hey Stace, can I stay the night?" She answered immediately, "yeah sure I'll be there in about twenty minutes" I heard her keys jangle and heard her close the door to her house. "That's great I'll have my stuff by then, should I grab my
“I’m getting in the car, are you coming?” My mom yelled up to me. I grabbed my bag and rushed down stairs.
During the drive to Cupertino Middle School, my mom was talking about how much she hated the traffic, when she would pick me up, did I have everything, and try to make some new friends.
“Um I need I need to go my mom's waiting” I lie and quickly run down the steps before he can say anything else.
“What are you doing?” Her mother’s voice called out, as she shuffled into the kitchen.
“All of us need to eat. I’ll pick up a pizza and be back shortly,” he said. He placed his hand on her shoulder as he walked by and left out the side door. They heard an engine start up and him back out of the driveway.
“I’ll be home at half past eight. Please leave dinner for me in the fridge.” Hugh called over his shoulder. Mother exhaled a faint sigh.
“You know if you’re mad at me when I leave, and something happens to me. You will regret it,” she would say, but I would just reply in a snarky tone. Saying something like,”Yeah sure mom.”
He walked over wrapping his arms around my waist, whispering into my ear, “I missed you all weekend. No more of those long softball trips out of town. I need my girl by my side.”
“Mom, I’m not getting up,” I said as I rolled over and wrapped my sheets around my cold body. “Well, it looks like I am dragging you to the car because you’re going to school today,” she responded.
“Whoa, wait a minute, is this where your mom works?” I said, taking a step back out of
“That’s great sweetie! I have to go to work, dinner is in the fridge, ask Ally to heat it up.” she abruptly cut me off.
I went up to my room and I looked up on my phone how much gasoline costs. When I found out that it was 1 dollar and 2 cents at 7 eleven I went downstairs but not before grabbing a lighter. When I told my mom that I was going out she asked “where are you going”? I said “just going to get some gas for the car and going to get a drink from 7 eleven.” She said ok and left the room.
“Oh my gosh mom thank you so much!” I grabbed the keys and gave her another hug.
“We are almost done honey, we need to lock the house and make sure that none of the lights are on. Did you get your toothbrush and toothpaste? What about your ps4 are you taking that with you?” My mom asked.
She leans against the door as she puts on her shoes. “I’m not sure what time I’ll be home tonight, but I 'll have my phone, so call me if you need to and I 'll come straight home.”
