THE VERY OLD MAN WITH ENORMOUS WING The short story “A very old man with enormous wings” is a written by a Colombian novelist and short story writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez; who was born on March 6, 1927 in Aracataca, Colombia. He was known as the master of magical realism and he died April 27th 2014.
The story took place in an unnamed place and town; it also took place in Pelayo and Elisenda’s courtyard. It is also seen that it is a Spanish speaking country because of their names. The characters of the story are Pelayo, Elisenda, father Gonzaga, the spider woman and the neighbor woman. The story is written in the third person point of view.

The story of the spider woman spread so quickly that everyone forgot the old man. Pelayo and his wife grow wealthy from the money they charged people to see the angel, pelayo abandoned his job and builds a two storey house and Elisenda bought expensive dresses. The old man still stays with them in the chicken coop for several years, as their child grow older. The plot is the event that makes up a story which includes the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and conclusion. In this story the very first thing that happen was that pelayo found the old man in his courtyard, the rising action is when Elisenda start charging people money to see the angel, the climax is when the old man became enraged when the people burnt his wings, the falling action is when everyone forgets the old man because of the arrival of the spider woman and the conclusion is when the old regain his strength and fly into the air.
