A Weekend at NASCAR
As most people are aware, NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in America. NASCAR, or the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, has become a national phenomenon and is attended by millions of Americans of year.
The NASCAR season begins in February at the speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, and runs until November where it concludes at the final race in Homestead, Florida. The season consists of 36 races at tracks throughout the United States. Some tracks, such as Daytona and Texas, sponsor two races each season. So what is the appeal for so many people?
RACE WEEK
In football (College or Pro) tailgating may last several hours on game day. For NASCAR fans, tailgating can last a week. Fans will

THE FAN
One of the first things a real NASCAR fan does is to choose their favorite driver to cheer for. Without choosing a driver, a NASCAR race is just a bunch of cars going fast around the track. Not choosing a driver would be like attending a football game and not having a favorite team. You’re just not invested. A real fan will also use a track scanner, which is a radio that allows you to hear the conversations between the driver and crew chief, as well as his spotter. If you don’t have one, they are available to rent at the track. A radio or scanner also helps you stay abreast of what’s happening on the track. Since these cars are moving at speeds of 150 to 200 miles per hour, there are the inevitable crashes, so the scanner helps you to know what happened.
GENERAL ATMOSPHERE
The atmosphere is electric. It’s hard to imagine that a single race can bring more than 200,000 people! The track at Texas Motor Speedway is very “fan friendly” in that fans can bring small coolers for their drinks and food. This is unlike the food concessions at other sporting events where you are forced to fork-over $5.00 for a hot dog. The only limitation is no glass bottles. The fans are very friendly and everyone seems to get along well. There seems to be a genuine kinship and camaraderie among NASCAR fans. Real racing fans don’t want to see wrecks; they want to want to
If you are a southern belle or gent, you have some point in your life watched NASCAR and cheered along with your family for your favorite driver. NASCAR is a part of life down in the Deep South, where the people support and still celebrate their heritage. Most people know that NASCAR was founded in the southern region, but most don’t know that it all started with prohibition in the 1920s.
NASCAR community is made up of sports personalities. The community values sports and champions sporting activities with the aim of fostering peace and unity (Batchelor 226). They have always achieved significant gains with the sporting initiatives concerning the transformation of the way of life of the southern people including other parts of the nation. Likewise, NASCAR is a sporting community that coordinates multiple auto-racing sporting events. The community started its activities in 1948, and the brain behind its formation is known as Bill France. It was formed to spearhead motorsports stock-car racing that is highly prominent. The community’s objective was to foster cultural practices, provide a
A united university through sports is often a rarity. College football can be one of the most intense experience in college sports. The passion and energy is nearly impossible to encapsulate into a single feeling. Sports teams and their fans share a bond that cannot be recon with. The colleges with prestigious athletic backgrounds have a numerous alumni who carry pride into every game day. A lot of fans equal a lot of fun, but attending an school with diehard fans is best part of college sports. College football has gained the reputation for becoming the most celebrated sport. The best way to celebrate a college football game is tailgating. Tailgating and college football have become such a tradition that it is hard to see one happening
Before the mid-1970s, NASCAR was never televised live. In 1979, the Daytona 500 became the first NASCAR event televised in its entirety. Since then, television has become the main branding medium for NASCAR, and it appears to be working well.
Modern day NASCAR hasn’t really differed that much. It is said the best NASCAR driver today is Jeff Gordon. Jeff Gordon was born on august the 4 1971 in Vallejo, California. Gordon started driving when he was five years old. Preforming laps on a makeshift track. Gordon won rookie of the year in 1991 in NASCAR. He was the first race car driver to win $100 million dollars in cup winnings in 2011. He placed third on NASCAR all-time win list. The next driver is debatable the best NASCAR driver today. His name is Dale Earnhardt Jr. his dad was dale Earnhardt the “intimidator”. Dale was born October 10, 1974 in concord North Carolina. Nick named junior dale is a party and fun to be around kind of guy. And on the track he is all business. Junior shows he can
NASCAR is one of the most rapidly growing sports in the world. There are people who think that NASCAR is just a bunch of hicks going around in circles, but it takes skill to drive at two-hundred miles per hour. I am going to talk about the history of NASCAR, early drivers of NASCAR, the three NASCAR divisions, the rules, and the new technology.
First of all, Nascar is more electrifying because, it involves more than two cars. Other than Drag racing having two cars, Nascar has about thirty racecars or more! When a lot of cars are out at once, it can have the most prospects of wrecks. Every racecar driver can go all at once, than wait until one’s turn as in Drag racing does.
Racing is always a thrill for me and for half of my family. It was always my uncle, dad, grandpa and grandma, and I that had a passion for watching or actually racing. My brother and my cousins and aunt didn 't really care for it. Before each race, I will have fear effect me. I always questioned everything while sitting and waiting to start. I would ask myself if there is enough gas in the car or is the tires good enough. I was always double checking before getting in and going out there. I constantly see cars flip over or crash and get caught on fire. It scares me but its a thrill. Racing on a dirt track has its benefits. Sliding and drifting on the track has helped me learn to actually know what to do for when I’m on an ice road
The cars also have safety features. If the car happens to be turned around backwards flaps come up to slow the car down. Not only do they slow the car down but the generate down force to keep the car on the road. Along with the Roof Flaps the car also have a Roof Hatch. The roof hatch is used to make a quick roof escape from the car. It goes to show that Nascar has thought of everything.
There will be a ton of media coverage from local stations as well as the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community and Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team, which covers the event on their website each
Many people have heard of NASCAR sometime in their life. It would be nearly impossible to not hear of it atleast once. It would be like someone saying they have never heard of the NBA. The problem is even the most devout fans don't know how NASCAR got to be. Many fans don't realise that moonshine played a huge role in the formation of NASCAR. It all started in 1920 when the United States outlawed the manufacturing and consumption of alcohol.
Many American’s truly look forward to the weekends. And why wouldn’t you? You get to be with your family and friends with time off work. But from September until February, there is a certain day that many America’s take such joy in participating in. And I’ll give you a hint: it is not going to church. When football season comes to the United States, many people become more social, often inviting friends and family to enjoy this weekly celebration. But football to many people is more than just a game. It is a social interaction that we as a community take part in. We pay quite a bit of money to attend their games. We watch never-ending commercials to see it at home…and for what?
Fans and friends alike can now secure a NASCAR Hall of Fame membership which will provide matchless access to the hall. NASCAR wasn’t always one of America’s favorite things to watch or a multimillion-dollar sport. It was actually inspired by criminal activity during the twentieth century. How racecars became part of American life goes back to the early days of prohibition and how gangsters avoided the law. During this time temperance organizations wanted to restrict or abolish the consumption of alcoholic beverages. By the early 20th century, women’s groups throughout the country viewed the sale and consumption of liquor was disrupting family life, and destroying marriages. The “Anti-Saloon League”, established in 1893, led a wave of protests in 1906 against “saloon” culture. The league had support from
These types of differentiation are often done through campaigns like the NASCAR 50th anniversary. Something that differentiates NASCAR from other competitors in the industry is the experience that fans get when attending a race. Fans that attend the races like the rush feeling that they might feel. This can include: live entertainment, possible crashes, and even danger at the events (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014.) NASCAR differentiates itself through connections with the media; diverse market segments, pursuing involvement in the Hispanic countries (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014.)
