A contemporary ethical issue which raises many diverse views and perspectives worldwide is abortion. The Catholic Church defines abortion as “the direct and purposeful taking of the life of the unborn child. In principle, Catholic Christians believe that all life is sacred from conception until natural death, and the taking of innocent human life, whether born or unborn, is morally wrong.” As the Catholic Church teaches, "Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy …show more content…
Does Abortion Treat the Foetus in an Unethical, Callous Way? Due to each individual holding a different perspective this ethical issue raises many questions which would be answered differently from individual to individual based on the ethical views they hold. “The Catholic Church opposes and condemns any and all direct abortions. Even pregnancies that result from rape, incest, and present a danger to the life of the mother aren’t reasons for abortion. The Church teaches that human life is created and begins at the moment of conception. The Catholic Church sees abortion as the termination of an unborn life, and therefore, it’s always wrong, sinful, and immoral. The circumstances by which that life was conceived are considered irrelevant.” From early church history it even says "Thou shalt not destroy thy conceptions before they are brought forth; nor kill them after they are born. Thou shalt love thy neighbor more than thy own life. Thou shalt not murder a child by abortion." Barnabas, The Epistle of Barnabas 14:11 (circa AD 125) this shows that life is precious and one should not abuse this and think it is ok to take in to their own hands when it is right to kill a life. Nowadays, in this world, there are a lot of problems that can make tremendous conflicts for human beings. They are very complicated and bring a lot of argument and nobody knows what the exact answer is. They also have pros and cons. One of the most complex problems is abortion. This is due to moral and ethical values which we all have. The majority of us are Christians or are brought up in that kind of ambiance which means that as small children we were taught values that are based on the bible such as that famous phrase “Thou shall not kill”. This phrase relates to this topic because an abortion is the murder of a human being.
This topic is also argued in different religions. The Catholic Church believes that abortion is murder and no person born or unborn should be unwillingly killed. Murder is against the Ten Commandments and a serious crime. They believe that abortion is wrong and just as bad as murder. Many Catholic protest abortion by holding protests outside of abortion clinics.
As a catholic-born child, I was brought up with very strict rules laid out before me that would help me with choices such as the holy sacrament of confirmation and marriage to the very controversial choice of abortion. Since I’ve been Catholic all of my life, I am a firm believer in the pro-life choice, which is advocating full legal protection of embryos and fetuses along with high opposition to the legalization of induced abortions. A baby is a baby is a baby. Whether it is an embryo, fetus, or almost a full term baby, it is still considered life. That is how I like to view this topic. This semester I plan to research why abortion is morally wrong
There are many common pregnancy alternatives, but most often the resulting decision is abortion because it is effortless. Abortion is endings a women’s pregnancy by removing or forcing a fetus or embryo from the mother’s womb before it is able to survive on its own. Not all abortions are purposely done some are spontaneous like when a women that has a miscarriage. Rather abortion is done purposely or naturally it is a worldwide complication as to it being wrong or right. Abortion is an ethical issue that will be analyzed according to a personal worldview and Christian worldview. Ethical thinking will be examined by value-based decisions that address abortion from the perspective of a Christian worldview and comparing it to a personal assumption by addressing ethical dilemma, core beliefs, resolution, evaluation, and comparison.
“Catholic teaching on abortion and maternal-fetal care is rooted in centuries of moral tradition, as are many values and principles that ground
Throughout the United States there has always been a big debate on whether or not abortion is ethically acceptable or not. Though many individuals see it as killing a child, many others can overlook that burden and see the consequences of having a child at that point in time. Individuals who are put in a pregnancy situation and have to look into all aspects of an abortion and the reasons for this procedure, while also realizing the biological development of the fetus, and the process of an abortion.
Abortion is a very touchy subject in America nowadays considering all the laws being passed that abortion should be illegal. There are obviously different sides to this. Many people believe that abortions are unethical. I'm not here to give you my argument or tell you which side I'm on, even though it will be really hard for me to not express my emotions. I am here to inform you on what an abortion is and the many factors people talk about while arguing about abortions.
Abortion is a word with unpleasant connotations, it’s a word mixed in controversy, whipping up passions and tempers, dipping into religions, politics and even personal ethics. In short it is a woman versus the rest of the world issue. Abortion is a religious issue because some faiths believe that life begins at the time of conception but when these religions foist their beliefs on the nation by making them laws this is a cause of great concern for those religions that are pro-choice. Judaism, for example, believe that life begins at birth. For them it is a violation of religious independence.
Roman Catholics believe that if only god has the right to take life, this means that abortion is sinful and should not be
United States is divided into Democrats and Republicans, and this means that people have very different opinions about various topics. Questions like gay marriage, economic policies, and foreign policies divide people in several camps. They often have different values, preferences and beliefs, but when it comes to abortion, this is the topic that both Catholics and Democrats take extremely seriously and find it problematic (Leonhardt). The problem with abortion is that no matter what position you choose, someone’s rights are violated. In cases when it comes to gay marriage, for example, by allowing these people to marry each other, no other parties are harmed, but with abortion if you decide to give rights to have an abortion to women, then unborn babies are the ones who pay the price and this price is the most extreme – their life.
Even though many people practice pro-life because of their religion, it may be surprising to learn that catholic women are 29% more likely to get an abortion than Protestant women, though they are as likely as all women to do so2. In Christianity abortion has been considered homicide since Pope Sixtus V declared it so, but the debate didn’t become heated until the 19th century1. So even these pro-life supporters sometimes find the circumstances where abortion is necessary. An example of a situation where you may see this is in a given situation where bearing a child and giving birth would kill the mother because of health issues or womb complications the fetus would have. It’s said that the risks of death associated with childbirth is 10 times higher than
Women are the giver of life and with that comes a beautiful bouncy baby. Sometimes with this right an abortion can be a port of it due to various reason. People face ethical dilemmas from the time we are born until we die. Now one knows what they will do in an ethical dilemma until it has presented itself. Depending on how we are raised and what our worldview is will determined in most cases how we will respond. I will examine the abortion ethical dilemma as it relates to the Christion worldview, and compare it to another worldview.

God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under anycircumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being.”The Catholic Church believes that human life begins at the moment of conception, teaching us that all life matters even if you’re in the womb. No matter the situation achild’s life is conceived, the Church believes it is irrelevant. It also teaches us that oncea child is conceived it has an immortal soul and has a right to live as much as themother. In the Ten Commandments, commandment number six states that, “you shallnot kill.” Abortion is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, during the first 20
Abortion is one of the most controversial subjects that has been continually argued over for many years all over the world that poses the questions death or life. Abortion discusses one’s interaction where ethics, emotions, medical, and law come into place. According to the Webster Dictionary abortion is the loss of the fetus or unborn child before it can live outside the womb. The killing a human life is a contradiction to the norms of society, from a biblical point of view, one will believe that abortion is wrong because it is a sin that is stated in Exodus 20:13, the sixth commandment of the law of God "Thou shall not kill", and such an act should be outright illegal. Although abortion may seem to be the only correct solution for an unwanted pregnancy, it is cruel, unethical, and presents a double-standard for society; therefore, it should be considered illegal except under some special cases and medical circumstances that indicate a danger to the mother and child.
So from this we can safely say that Catholics view, and have always viewed, abortion as evil. Then again, we are relying on something uncertain -- how you determine the humanity of a being. Clearly Catholics do not view a fetus as a human being.
