Aaron Copland was one of the most respected American classical composers of the twentieth century (American Masters). Today, his compositions are still very known and they have inspired many composers and piano performers worldwide. Composer and conductor of the United States, he is one of the most solid and interesting musicians of his country. Copland was born on November 4, 1900, into a Jewish family of Russian origin, he began his musical education in New York. In 1921 he moved to Paris, where for three years he received composition classes from the famous Nadia Boulanger. The son of Jewish emigrants from Lithuania, Copland received his first music lessons from the hand of his older sister, who taught him to play the piano, and at
Regarded as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century, Béla Bartók was born in 1881 in Hungary, and became proficient at the piano at a young age. As he grew older, he developed a particular interest in composing and performing folk dances, blending the line between traditional folk music, and his formal musical training. Bartók’s interest in the folk music of Hungary would later blossom into his foray into the field of what is now ethnomusicology.
Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, or Wolfgang Mozart for short, was born on January 27, 1756. He was an Austrian composer that today is known as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music. Mozart wrote in multiple musical genres, excelling in each one. Because of his range of expression, it made him seem the most universal of all composers.
I do agree that Aaron Copland’s works are examples of music with an American quality. The reason for this is because “Hoe-Down” was very energetic and was square dance music. Square dancing and square dance music is something that is of American tradition and people all over America enjoy to hear. I also agree with this statement because “Hoe-Down” has been used in movies and I am sure that so have his other best-known works. Movies make up a great deal of the American life and without good music those movies cannot reach their potential therefore the wonderful music helps give quality to both the ear and the eye because of the visuals and emotions that come with listening to the music.
When looking at the characteristics of his work, Copland could most likely be described as an experimentalist. He often enjoyed mixing various stylistic ideas of Jazz and Mexican dance rhythms into his music and did not shy away from including these styles into his film scores and
My composer that was given to me was Aaron Copland. Aaron Copland is an American composer, writer, and later in his career a conductor of his own and other American music. He was instrumental in forging a distinctly American style of composition, and is often referred to as " The Dean of American Composers".
In October 1958, Aaron Copland made his television debut on the BBC program Monitor, marking the start of a successful new sideline for a composer whose career was already well established. Alongside ever more frequent conducting appointments, Copland's appearances in television documentaries and interviews provided a new outlet for his talents, particularly as his compositional inspiration began to wane.' With his distinctive facial profile, affable and straightforwardly articulate manner, and high standing in the music world, Copland must have seemed to television's early producers a guaranteed audience winner. His natural ability in front of the camera was evident from the outset, and he brought to the burgeoning medium decades of experience in lecturing, teaching, and speech making.
Leonard Bernstein is not only one of the greatest composers in America, but also one of the greatest conductors in the world. Bernstein conducted great music, composed great music, and also performed music as a pianist. According to the New York Times, he was “one of the most prodigiously talented and successful musicians in American history.” Born and educated in the United States, Bernstein was the first American to obtain a worldwide acclaim. He is perhaps most known for his film score in the West Side Story production.
Aaron Copland was an American composer that wrote music for ballets, films, and symphonies. His music contained ties to folk, Latin American, and jazz genres such as his songs El Salon Mexico and Fanfare for the Common Man.
I really appreciate what Copland has to say in his essay. It is true that there is a great difference between hearing music as a background noise and listening to music as an opportunity to learn. In the final sentence, Copland emphasis his thesis throughout the entirety of the essay. In order to learn from whatever genre of music we listen to, we have to consciously make the decision to tune our ear to what is being played. This essay not only applies to musicians, but to anyone wanting to gain the knowledge that only attentive listening can provide. Copland says, "The simplest way of listening to music is to listen for the sheer pleasure of the musical sound itself." What he is describing is the basis at which learning begins. At first listen,
Looking back in time at the great composers of the world, only one foreign composer stands out for his many contributions to classical music and in helping America to find its own music. Antonin Leopold Dvorak was born on September 8th, 1841, in a small village of Nelahozeves in Bohemia that lies on the bank of the Mauldau River. The village Dvorak was born into was in good company and surroundings however also retained much of its native luster even through the worst times of political oppression (1).
George Gershwin, born in Brooklyn, New York on 26 September 1898, was born the second of four children of Morris and Rose Gershovitz, Russians who immigrated to New York in 1891. George and his family lived on Manhattan's lower east side in a poor Jewish community. After settling down in New York, his father changed the family name to Gershvin. It was George who later altered his last name to Gershwin when he entered the professional world of music. Most of his family was not musically talented, but his brother Ira became a wonderful well-known musician.
5 things I believe we need to work on as an ensemble is tone quality, rhythm, intonation, dynamic changes and articulation. I believe this because the judges mentioned these things more than 3 times altogether. One of the judges commented that we should blow more air as we play so we don’t go flat or sharp. Another comment was that we should know other people’s parts in the ensemble. Some people in the ensemble play their parts way too loud that we can’t hear the woodwinds when they have the melody. The ensemble as a whole needs to match pitches because we would sound like there is no balance within our parts. When we do dynamic changes we need to have our mezzo piano “kinda soft”, mezzo forte “medium loud”, forte “loud”, fortissimo “ louder”

Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Hayden are well-known composers, but Beethoven is the greatest composer of all time. Everyone has heard the name Beethoven before. Why is he one of the greatest composer of all time? The answer is easy. He influenced so many composers after he died. Just like how Michael Jackson influenced other artists when he passed away. He made a huge impacted during the classical period and to the world. His music was influenced into the next centuries, and he is considered to be the best composer of all time.
