Most of our youth playing AAU basketball have the dream or drive of playing at the next level. The next level could be college or professional; the idea is that playing in more tournaments will increase your exposure to scouts. European and players born outside of the U.S. have been a steady addition to professional basketball in the US. San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popovich prefers the European player because they are, "fundamentally harder working than most American kids (Wickersham, 2013)." The Spurs have won 5 NBA championships since 1999, which is tied with the Los Angeles Lakers over the same period for most in basketball.

As soon as Magic Johnson announced he had HIV, he immediately was a role model for others to get tested and have hope of living a long and fulfilling life. In 2011, Magic Johnson talked about living with AIDS/HIV for 20 years, and how this disease is not a death sentence. He encourages others to get educated and get tested. However, when Johnson first found out he had the AIDS/HIV virus, his concern was not how did he get the disease or what is going to happen or how will he afford the medical expenses, but rather, “How am I going to live a long time?” (Moughty).

Alvisurez is a first generation college student that came from Los Angeles, California. When he first came to UCSB, he lived in FT and there was only four Hispanics on his whole floor, this gave him more opportunity to expose to foreign cultures and experiencing culture shock. I found Elijah Andersons article, “Race, Class, and Change Street Wise in an Urban Community,” very interesting by the way Anderson interlocked both racism and urban communities I realized after reading that being on a street in a village community for both blacks and whites was a life-threatening experience. I could not believe how difficult it was to distinct a middle-income black man or woman from a black “stranger.” For example, a young black man tells his experience he had when walking towards a white lady while a young white man runs across the street and just stands between the young black man and the white woman (Anderson, 209). The white man thought the black man was a threat when all he was doing was walking in the village and going a certain direction that happened to be towards a white woman.
