Abortion is wrong because it is the killing of an innocent baby. Many people today think that there is nothing wrong with having an abortion. But not only is it killing a baby, it can also cause long term effects on the person getting the abortion. Some people can bleed to death while others may have fertility issues afterwards. This paper will state exactly what abortion is, statistics on abortion, the Church and cultural views of having an abortion, and other options than having an abortion such as adoption. The states with the highest amount of abortions in 2011 were California with 181,730, New York with 138,370 and Florida with 84,990 abortions. The states with the lowest amount of abortions in 2011 were Wyoming with 120, South Dakota with 600, and North Dakota with 1, 250 abortions (Abort 73). In the United States, half of all pregnancies are unwanted. About four out of ten of the pregnancies are aborted. Twenty-one percent of pregnancies in America, not including miscarriages, end in abortion (Abort 73). In the year 2010, eighty five percent of abortions were performed on women who were not married. Women who lived with a man who they were not married to resulted in twenty-five percent of abortions. About fifty-six percent of abortions were performed on women who had never had an abortion before. About thirty-seven percent of abortions were done on women with one or two abortions performed before. About eight percent of abortions were done on women with three or more abortions performed before (Abort 73). Between the ages of twenty to twenty-four, women had the most abortions during that age with 32.9% in 2010. Women between twenty-five and twenty-nine had about 20 abortions every one thousand twenty-five to twenty-nine year old women.
