Essay on Abortion: More Harm than Good

When touching the subject of abortion, one must consider that there are two sides battling for control. That is right, abortion has literally turned into a war zone where even the unlikely of individuals do the unthinkable. Each side has their motives and methods for contradicting the other. For instance, there are cases and events that support both sides of this issue.

Pro-life advocates also argue that abortions are being used for unsettling reasons. People are choosing to have abortions when they discover that their unborn child is not "perfect." The embryo or fetus may be the wrong sex, or have some form of a birth defect. They also view abortions as an unacceptable form of birth control. Many women are not getting one abortion because of an unwanted pregnancy, but two, three, and sometimes even more.

Women may have an abortion for a variety of reasons, but in general they choose abortion because a pregnancy at that time is in some way wrong for them. “Abortion is the removal of a fetus from the uterus before it is mature enough to live on its own” (Kuechler 1996). When this happens spontaneously we call it a miscarriage. Induced abortion is brought about deliberately by a medical procedure that ends pregnancy. Legal abortion, carried out by trained medical practitioners, is one of the most common and safest surgical procedures. “About 1.5 million American women choose to have induced abortions each year. Less than 1% of all abortion patients experience a major complication associated with the procedure” (Kuechler 1996).

Someone could argue that an abortion is taking an unborn child’s life, but what life are they talking about? To be alive, one must have experiences, which an unborn child simply does not have. A woman’s rights outweigh those of an unborn child’s. Society is constantly changing and although the Supreme Court shows sympathy and respect for traditional values, it also recognizes the need for change. The Supreme Court agrees with Kerry and other pro-choice supporters.

It is difficult to think about all the different emotions a mother must feel after losing her baby; no matter how it happens. The abortion may have been something the mother wanted or she may have been pressured into it by others around her. No matter what the reason is, it is hard for a mother to lose something that was a part of her for nine months. She feels many different emotions due to the major hormone changes she goes through. These emotions can range from average feelings to feelings that are dangerous to the point where the mother needs professional help. According to the American pregnancy association (2007), abortion causes many side effects such as; regret, anger, guilt, shame, loneliness or isolation, impaired self confidence, insomnia or nightmares, relationship issues, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, depressions and anxiety (para. 3). Abortion is the closest thing to murder but people don't seem to think so. Murder is a terrible thing and so is abortion. Killing unborn children is not the solution to mothers who don't want to be a mother! It's unfair to the baby their carrying who hasn't even gotten a chance to speak what they want! What if these mothers are killing people who will make a difference in the future? Millions of unborn babies are getting killed each year because of abortion being legal! Abortion is causing many problems in America and needs to be stopped!

The death of a child is a hard thought to process. Think about the mothers of the unborn willing to give up a child of God to bear the thought of embarrassment or endangerment. Death is death no matter what angle it is looked upon. Abortion should be illegal anywhere in the United States in spite of the circumstances.

First off, it is a proven scientific fact that a fetus in the mother’s womb is in fact a living human being. So when you abort this living being not only are you committing murder but you are violating the Charter under legal rights section 7 which states:

Murder is illegal and you would spend the rest of your life in jail or receive capital punishment if you kill someone. if murder is illegal but abortion isn't then the government is saying you can kill a baby and it doesn't count as murder. www.plannedparenthood.org says “In later second-trimester procedures, you may also need a shot through your abdomen to make sure that the fetus's heart stops before the procedure begins” If that doesnt sound like killing someone then I dont know what is.

Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy that is often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. As life begins at conception, unborn babies are human beings and thus have the right to life. The federal Unborn Victim Of Violence Act that was made to protect unborn babies from murder states that anybody intentionally killing an unborn baby should be punished for killing a human being. Abortion is a murder because it is taking away someone’s life. Even though the baby isn’t born yet, the fetus in the mother’s womb still feels pain while being aborted. No person, not even a mother, has the right to hurt someone. To keep a child, who can’t even speak, from growing and from living is a murder.

When conceived, the unborn child is entirely innocent and there is no reason for extermination. Murder is illegal throughout the world, so why is it right to kill a faultless human being? Why is killing a helpless, voiceless, developing child justified? The answer to both of these questions is that, it is not okay. Allowing another person to determine the fate of a powerless human being is fallacious. Also, the Unborn Victims of Violence Act protects children in the womb from murder and from attack in the United States. This act is currently effective, but abortions are still being performed everyday.
