Abortion A famous feminist named Margaret Sanger once said,“No woman can call herself free who does not control her own body.” In 1973 the united states supreme court pass the right to get an abortion. The court ruled 7-2 extending the 14th amendment. The case is known as Roe V. Wade case. In the Roe V. Wade case a lot of people didn't know what it was really about or don't know about it at all nowadays. This case went down in Texas during 1973 and was between Norma McCorvey (aka Jane Roe) and Sarah Weddington, The lawyer. The case was challenging the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws. The case also went against ones privacy that was protected by the 14 amendment. The case was fighting the fact that you could only get an abortion if the mother's life was at danger. That's the part that was going against your privacy as an american citizen. The law now states that you may not get one after the baby has passed the fetus stage. The only way you will get an abortion after the fetus stage is if the mothers life is at stake. She met her first husband while working as a rolling skating carhop. Within a year Norma was pregnant but her husband seemed to be violent so she immediately divorced him and had her child in May of 1965. Her daughter's name was Melissa. Soon after the baby was born she granted full custody to her mom. Norma says in I Am Roe that Mary (Normas mom) “kidnapped” Melissa saying that the papers she had were for insurance but they were actually adoption papers. At the age of 19 Norma had her second child and the day it was born there was an adoptive couple waiting to take the baby. Norma found out in September 1969, the month she turned 22 that she was pregnant again. She didn't want to go through with this one but didn't have the money to travel to one of the 6 states that had legalized
