Abraham Lincoln Assassination: Rough Draft

"There are men who want to take my life. And I have no doubt they will do it. . . If it is to be done, it is impossible to prevent it." This quote can closely be related to Abraham Lincoln and his assassination. This shows that President Lincoln was committed to his beliefs and traditions. When Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, it was because his killer was an anti-abolitionist, and he did not agree with Lincoln’s ways. He was a strong and intellectual way and was often frowned upon for his thinking. He died for what he believed in and he did not want it any other way.

“Four score and seven years ago...” Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president and had his life taken after the North’s victory over the South; he lives on through these famous words of the Gettysburg Address. Abraham Lincoln was an important leader in the Civil War who helped free the slaves; his legacy lives on today. Although he was assassinated his words and actions are imprinted in our memory still today. This assassination was a major event in the history of the United States, not only with the loss of a great president, but with the changes and implications that came with it.

Abraham Lincoln had been nominated president and soon after abolished slavery. Most of America had wanted this and most of the population was happy with the decision. However, some people were greatly angered and believed slaves are a “right” and that people should still be allowed to own them.

As Ulysses S. Grant, Commanding General of the Union Army of the United States of America, during the Civil War, I strongly believe that our President, Abraham Lincoln is innocent regarding all charges being pressed on him today. I was born in Ohio on April 27in 1822, and I was proud to be able to serve during in the Civil War, after joining a volunteer regime in Illinois, and quickly showing off my skill and ascending the ranks, to eventually be appointed Commanding General of the Union Army. The charges that The accusation most closely related to me personally is Lincoln’s subverting the efforts of the Union in the war by appointing military officers not fit for such a responsibility, and then proceeding to manipulate their decisions and

John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. He received help with the plan and execution of it. John Wilkes Booth did not act alone for the assassination of President Lincoln.

Lincoln will be forever remembered as a man with much knowledge and as a leader in preserving the Union during the Civil War. The day Lincoln died had a huge impact on everyone in American History; Booth and his hitmen should’ve been executed that day. Lincoln’s assassination took place on April fourteenth. Booth heard that Lincoln would arrive at the theater that night do he gathered up supplies that night. At approximately ten thirteen pm Booth came up behind Lincoln and shot him.

The book is a great tool to helping readers understand the true mindset of people during this horrific time. The book also shows how history could have possibly been changed by one important strategical move during the war. Killing Lincoln shows the plans and events of Lincoln’s assassination and the time after. The book will take a person into the story and grants them access into the minds of different people who were involved throughout the entire event.

Killing Lincoln is an intriguing book about the events that led to the assassination of President Lincoln. It discusses the planning leading up to the killing and the actual assassination. It goes through the current events that occurred during that time period and John Wilkes Booth’s thoughts. This book does not have to be read only by people only interested in history because it is that interesting and entertaining. It is a book that grabs the reader and pulls them in appealing to all audiences. This book would appeal to any person who enjoys a good, fairly easy read.

His impact towards the United States was shown through the countless citizens who paid their respect to him after his death. Abraham Lincoln was honored for his accomplishments as president, and the importance of following through with each cause of the American Civil War. It is known that there are several factors that led the South to secede. Slavery, states’ rights, and the election of Abraham Lincoln, himself, to the presidency, contributed to the war and Lincoln recognized that and took responsibility and initiative to fix what he had started. Even though it has been nearly 150 years since the Civil War ended, some of the leftover divide between North and South can still be seen. In politics, there is a divide between North and South. However, there are also issues of race and cultural differences. Much like how the conservative states are in the North, and the Liberal states are in the south, but this is mostly because of the demographic of the area in which they are voting. Abraham Lincoln experienced a lot within his time of being president, which was set as his initiative to start his achievements and relationships. President, Abraham Lincoln is no doubt one of the most essential historic figures to be a part of the American history. He will be known for generations to come not only for being on the five-dollar bill, penny, and on Mount Rushmore, but what he stood for and pursued. Without his determination and work ethic, slavery would not have ended at such a rapid and sudden rate, and modern America would not be in the same control/ be ran and governed the way that it is

The first reason Abraham Lincoln assassination was unjust because he ended slavery.Lincoln believed in universal justice and believed problems could be solved differently( Forneri 147). This supports the reason why he shouldn’t be killed because he didn’t like they way that black people was treated and he wanted blacks to be equal. Because he wanted blacks to be equal, he shouldn’t have been killed. Abraham cared about the blacks and he did everything he could.

Lee, surrendered to Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant and the Union Army of the Potomac.

John Wilkes Booth was born in Maryland, 1838. He was known for being an actor and he made 20,000 a year. He had a very strong hatred for Abraham Lincoln, he was very racist and believed the African Americans should not have any rights. Booth also would blame Lincoln for all the south’s problems. He was also known as the most handsome and charming man known during his time.

Ford’s Theater was the setting of one of the saddest times in American history, Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Lincoln’s assassination is a well known event but did you know that John Wilkes Booth, the assassin, wasn’t the only one in on this killing, nor was Abraham Lincoln the only person planned on being killed?

Herman Melville said, “There is sobbing of the strong, and a pull upon the land; but the people in their weeping bare the iron hand; beware the people weeping when they bare the iron hand.” This was said following the death of Abraham Lincoln. The day after Lincoln was assassinated bells tolled and cannons fired every half hour for a day and night. Choirs chimed in as well singing, “Rest noble spirit, rest.” An approximate total of 100,00 people sang these words until 8 o’clock at night. When it came time for Lincoln’s funeral many buildings were draped in black and almost every business was closed down across the nation. On April 18th, over 25,000 people went to the White House to see Lincoln’s body. After this the body was taken to the Capitol building where another 25,000 saw the body lying still.
