Abraham Lincoln was argued to be one of the best United States presidents in history. His views on slavery were argued, including the fact that he either did or did not actually free the slaves. It was also believed that he thought that black people shouldn't have the same rights as white people, despite that fact that he allegedly ended slavery in the North and South (especially) region of the United State, with a war. This wasn't his first rodeo when it came to politics, either. In 1858, Lincoln ran against Stephen A. Douglas for the Senator of Illinois. He didn't win, but he got national reputation for running against Douglas. There have been many revolts and rebellions, such as Gabriel’s Rebellion or Nat Turner’s Rebellion, fought over the abolition of slavery or for African Americans to be able to receive the same rights as those of white people. Many people have fought for this cause and one of those people is Abraham Lincoln. He started out wanting to contain slavery hoping it would die out with out bloodshed but in the end he decided the only way to save America was to eliminate slavery entirely. Although it didn't actually free any slaves, it turned the tide of battle to human freedom instead of preserving the nation. When the Kansas-Nebraska Act repealed the Missouri Compromise by allowing slavery in the Louisiana territory forbidden by the Compromise Lincoln was rocketed into an abolitionist standpoint.
