Adele Concert Film Review
The Performer: On July 28th in the evening at home alone, I watched Adele live at Royal Albert Hall on YouTube, which can be found following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ7bnkVbI88&t=0s.. Adele was born in 1988 in London, and is a well known British singer/songwriter. Adele has released three albums in her career: 19, 21, 25 and Adele has thirteen hits on the billboard top 100 chart as of 2017. Adele started her career in 2006 when a video of hers was discovered on myspace. An influence on Adele’s style of music is Etta James. This performance is before her last album was released and features more of her past relationships in her music, so this concert was not about happy party music, it was a deep soulful experience.
The Sound: Adele’s music has sounds that come from various genres such as pop, soul, and rhythm and blues. I really like how Adele can go from one genre to the other with her voice and shows that she is a really good singer. The instruments that were used in the concert were mostly a piano setup, strings, with there being two sections for strings, guitars, and lastly there were also drums, but the drums where not heavily used in many songs. Adele also had to backup singers which added depth to the songs. In the concert, I watched she did a cover of a country song titled “If It Hadn't Been for Love” by the Steeldrivers. Adele had a banjo added to the set, with some more guitars added as well to really get the
One of Aaliyah’s contributions to her genres of music would be that she brought back the teen girl's voice for R&B. Due to the fact that when she first started her career she was fifteen years old. Her career started when she did a cover for the song “At your best.” By the Isley Brothers. When Aaliyah dropped her first single “Back & Forth.” It was a hit because Aaliyah was a young talented solo artist. Since she was a solo artist she was appealed more by a younger audience. Due to the fact that she wasn’t like the older singers such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
Adele doesn’t really make an inspiring or emotional impact in this novel. She is a housewife who is content fulfilling her duties. She is a static character because she shows no change or growth from the beginning to the end of the novel. It is almost like she receives a checklist from society about what she needs to do and she gladly performs those tasks.
Aaliyah was my best friend, we told eachother everything, I was there with her when she first recorded her first song, we sang together, we even wrote a song together, i thought of her like a little sister, little did I know of the short time I had with her. I remember when I first heard of her, she was performing in Las Vegas with the famous singer Gladys Knight. You should have seen my face full of shock and awe as I heard this eleven year old’s voice, the way she hit all the right notes, and how her voice blended perfectly with Gladys was amazing. From that point on I knew she was going to be a superstar, and that I wanted her, no needed to have her in one of my albums. Three years later, yet again she surprises me by her debut album with
She performed at top venues all over the world, and packed them to the hilt. Her audiences were as diverse as her vocal range. They were rich and
In Without Apology, filmmaker Susan Hamovitch made me experience a wide range of emotions as I learned more and more about her brother Alan. Within the first minutes of the film, I began to feel despondent. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around the idea that in 1958 the advice given to Alan’s parents by the best medical professionals was to place their child in an institution and forget about him. From the moment they left Alan at Letchworth Village the family seldom spoke his name. Therefore, when Susan said “I didn’t see him as a real person” I thought how difficult it most have been for her to go on this journey. It was towards the end of the film that I started to feel hopeful. This journey that Susan decided to embark, which began by her going to a support group, then visiting Alan at Letchworth, and reading Alan’s records, was very inspiring. For me, the film evoked these feelings as sadness as well as feelings of joy. I knew that it was a real life story and if this was the experience of one family who knows how many more families went through the same or a similar situation and were broken up. By the end of the film I was hopeful because of many reasons. Alan was not alone in this world. There was someone that cared about him enough to have the courage to expose her most protected secret.

Born Amy Jade Winehouse on September 1983, this tattooed singer took the world by storm when her debut album ‘Frank’ was released in 2003. Winehouse is said to be one of those singers who can take on any given genre with her astounding and weird vocal ability which covers soul, blue-eyed soul, rhythm, blues, jazz and reggae. Amy Winehouse is a big could-have-been in current mainstream music, and it is with deep regret that the world lost her in July 2011 due to alcohol poisoning. Many shook their heads in disbelief while others just accepted the fact that Winehouse went out of control and tripped hard on the pavement despite the fame and success she
Beyonce Knowles, daughter of Tina and Mathew Knowles, was born on September 4, 1981, in Houston, Texas. As a child she was a shy child her parents put her in a dance class to try and get her to not be as shy. She did love to dance so she didn’t really mind. The dance teacher then heard her sing and she convinced Beyonce to go into the talent show, and she won. Ever since then she loved singing. She grew up around it because her parents would always have music playing. From then on she continued to do what she loved and that was singing. By her thirtieth birthday she was known internationally for being a famous singer, songwriter, and an actor. Therefore, Beyonce Knowles is a significant person because she was the lead vocalist of the R&B group Destiny’s Child, being a top selling artist with sold out tours, and she followed her dreams of being known as an actor and singer.
The movie The Princess Bride originated from the book The Princess Bride by Williams Goldman. The storyline goes along demonstrating the typical knight and the royal characteristic in Medieval times. The events in the movie are based on the courtly love of the main character, Westley. Before being arrested to be a pirate, Westley was a farm boy, who is deeply in love with Buttercup. When he heard of the kidnap the trio, he immediately came to rescue Buttercup, who is at that time Prince Humperdinck's fiance. Within the fight scene of Westley and Inigo Montoya, a knight from the trio, the chivalry of medieval knights is being shown. From the beginning when Inigo patiently waits for Westley to climb up the cliff for the fight, to during the fight
The concert I attended was called the Faculty and Student Recital, which took place in the Cisco Auditorium on April 11, 2017. The music that was on the program was mostly what is called “classical” music, as well as a Chinese Folk Song, an electronic composition, and variations on an Indian Tala. In the classical pieces, the instruments that were used were the violin, the piano, the cello, and the oboe. In the electronic composition, the computer was used to make music. In the Chinese Folk Song, the piccolo was used to imitate the unique timbre of a Chinese flute. In the Indian tala, drums from Ghana were used to imitate the rhythm and sound of Indian drums. The piano, the violin, the cello, and the piccolo all originate
In 2004, at age 19, she moved to London and months after, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. As she was pursuing a solo career, she had in mind to write songs for artists and Christina Aguilera happened to record one of her songs Sing For Me for her 2012 album LOTUS. She also talked about how she grew up listening to Christina Aguilera, prancing around the room singing to Genie In A Bottle idolising her voice and how it’s a pleasure working with her. She also got time also spent fun time working with artist Adam Lambert. As well as Will-i-am whom she had crazy experience working with on the same studio and arguing all day and talking about how R&B is the best genre in the world rather than dance
The first half of the concert was only instrumental. There were two violins, two violas, and two cellos. They sat on stage with the violins one my right, then the violas in the middle, and the cellos on the end. The violins played a few songs solo. The second half of the concert was only the choir and a piano. Their performance started with the song Daybreak. The song Daybreak also had a few girls playing percussion, one of them had a tambourine. Using SHMRG, the Harmony of most of the choirs songs were very homophonic. The Melody of most of the songs were mainly slow, though a couple songs were very fast, and upbeat.
The overall concert offered a wide verity of choir song, from classical pieces composed by Mozart to musical show tunes. The combination of which resulted in an overall enjoyable experience. The concert was not the first choir concert I had ever attended so I went in expecting it to be similar to the high school choir performances I have seen before. I was not expecting the scale of the concert to be so large. Instead of being one choir and an hour-long program there were four groups along with a much longer program. Each of the choir groups had a different dynamic, sound and feel to it. The differences made it interesting.
Shakira has done a lot of things since she was a child to become the famous person she is now. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on February second, 1977. At the age of 8, she wrote her first song, and by 13 she signed a record deal with Sony Music in Colombia, which resulted in her first album, “Magia” (Magic). She wrote all the songs
