At the end of WWI in 1918, Germany’s economy was in ruins. There were very few jobs, and bitterness began to take over the country. According to the text, “Hitler, a rising politician, offered Germany a scapegoat: Jewish people. Hitler said that Jewish people were to blame for Germany’s problems. He believed that Jews did not deserve to live.” (7) This was the birth of Antisemitism--prejudice against Jewish people. Europe’s Jewish people have always been persecuted due to their “different customs and beliefs that many viewed with suspicion.”(7) Hitler simply reignited the flames, and a violent hatred was born.

When Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933, he immediately began enforcing an authoritative state. An authoritative state is a state favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom. Hitler started a world war to achieve his dream of world domination. The war left behind an estimated 72 million dead, among them 47 million civilians, of whom some six million were Jewish. Jews were the targets of the Holocaust because Hitler hated Jews and blamed them for all of the problems in the world. Throughout the years of the Holocaust, this is seen in many ways, starting from the Nazis having book burnings to get rid of un-German writings proclaiming the death of Jewish intellectualism all the way to the extremity of the mass murder of Jews. This process progressed rapidly, and it had lasting effects for the entire world.

In history, we learned about WW2 and The Holocaust. In 1932, Hitler rose to power as chancellor of Germany. As soon as he became ruler, he started creating anti-Jewish laws. In 1933 the first concentration camp was created, and they were active until 1945. Hitler believed that the Aryan people (Aryan people are Christian, German people with blond hair and blue eyes) disserve rule the world and the only people holding them back was the Jewish population, this made all Aryans believe that they are superior and that they should hate the Jews. Nearly anyone in Germany who was non Aryan was sent to concentration camps and a lot of them were killed. But the people who were wise enough to tell that this wasn’t right were afraid of Hitler; they believed that if they were to stand up against Hitler they would be killed. Germany finally lost the war in 1945 and Hitler suicides before he can be captured by Russian troops. Just around this time, Russian armies started liberating concentration camps.

Hitler’s attitudes led to his becoming a rabid German nationalist. His ancestors too were peasants, but not serfs. Unlike Stalin, Hitler’s early years were not of hardship and poverty. He was never poor or harshly treated. His father moved up in the ranks in the service and retired with the highest rank open to a civil servant with his education. He had a secure income and a very high social standing and when he passed away he left his widow and children well provided for.

Hitler was really a pauper, he did manage to sell few of his paintings, but the worst part was he slept on the benches and ate from the soup kitchens. He was helpless. After World War I ended, Hitler stepped into the politics. He joined the German’s workers party; he later changed its name to National German Workers’ Party or Also known as the Nazi party. But after the uprising act in Munich, it sent him to prison for nine months. He wrote the book “mein kempf” meaning “my struggle”, which sold about 5 million copies. He attained a lot of fame after writing that book. He used his failed revolution and the book he wrote to seize power legally. Adolf Hitler came to power over Germany in January of 1933. He hated Jews and blamed them for everything bad that had ever happened to Germany. Hitler’s goal in life was to eliminate the Jewish population. With his rise to power in Germany, he would put into action his plan of elimination.
