According to the G and D Integrated website, both the horse and donkey were domesticated for transportation about 4000 B.C; the horse in Mesopotamia and the donkey in Egypt. Transportation has come a long way since that time,... from personal vehicles to public transit. People choose one or the other for different reasons. They both offer advantages and disadvantages. Driving a car or riding a bus can be a difficult choice, but when time, personal control, and cost are taken into consideration, the decision can be narrowed down fairly quickly. Time may be the deciding factor when choosing whether to ride a bus or drive a car to a chosen destination. Most buses make multiple stops along the way prior to getting to where a rider wants …show more content…
Because there is no waiting time on other riders, the driver can make their own decision regarding what time they are leaving to get to their destination. The driver doesn’t have to catch a bus (BE 11). The driver of a car does not have to rely on anyone else to be on time but themselves. Driving a car allows for a person to choose their own route, which typically would be shorter, thus saving time. Personal control is one of the biggest factors to consider when contemplating taking the bus or driving a car. When taking the bus, there are very few things that are under the rider’s control. The rider does not get to choose when the bus leaves or when it arrives at the chosen destination. Seating on bus is solely based on what is available. For example, he or she may wish to sit by a window alone but instead is packed in like sardines against a pole to hang on to with other people breathing on them. Someone might be very obnoxious, drunk, crazy, or just have a very bad cold. Who would want to sit next to them (BE 7)? Also, if a rider was on a bus and needed to stop at a bank or pick up a few groceries those options would be unavailable. On the bus, the rider has no control over the music being played (BE 10). Lastly, the temperature on the bus is usually too hot or too cold and the rider has no option of changing that. When driving a car, the driver has full personal control. A car ride (short and peaceful) is how many people
To sum it up, having a car is a very useful vehicle that offers many advantages. Public transportation has high capacity, saves energy and its cheap, but is less comfortable and less expensive. Public transit is more convenient for some people for many reasons. Using private cars is somewhat expensive and produces more pollution on atmosphere than public transport. All in all, public transport is known to be more efficient and cheaper than private cars. Whichever form of transportation is chosen, it really depends on the person, their likes and dislikes and what they think is most affordable to

Transportation in the region has a long and successful past. However, public transportation has consistently taken a back seat to the personal automobile. There has been a strong core of persons who rely on public transportation to achieve mobility, and governmental
From here on, I am going to illustrate my lifestyle in a rural area versus a well developed city. I came from a small village in China. Walking to places has been build on me since I was a little kid; it was one of my habit. Back in the days, nothing seems handy to own. I remembered it was indeed hard to own a small motorcycle, not to speak of cars. On account of that, I treasure walking gratefully. I can walk to my school, relative's house, convenient stores, as well as markets for food. That has been my lifestyle for ten years until I came to the United States. My lifestyle has changed from walking to commuting through buses. San Francisco is a fairly developed city. We can access to every part of SF through muni, and the buses come in very often. Gradually, I start taking the bus to school, to hangouts with friends, and restaurants. I don’t remember when but I started to feel and think buses are so convenient. I rely on buses so much that I became surprisingly lazy. I would choose to take the bus even when the destination is
Watching “SpongeBob SquarePants” as a child made me realize that owning a vehicle is vital in order to get our desire destinations safely and punctual. There were numerous occasions where I found myself dependent on others. Though there are countless of bus stops I can use for transportation, I am not comfortable riding in one. Walking is another type transportation I took for school and work. However, a rainy day impedes a travel by foot. Additionally, riding my bicycle was another way I got around. My errands require extensive transportation on a daily basis. I did not want to be a burden any further. Luckily, I discovered Uber. I am pleased and relieved that I have discovered a reliable way to get to my destinations at a reasonable price.
A study on the reliability of public transportation found that “long, heavily used bus lines on congested roadways are likely to have poor schedule reliability” (Levinson). Lower income areas tend to have a higher population density, which increases the congestion and overall reliability of busses (Levinson). Delays at the beginning of a bus route are then propagated to later stops creating further setbacks (Levinson). Bus operators have also been found skip certain stops, if they believe they are too dangerous (Levinson). Since poor people do tend to live in more treacherous areas, this further compounds their unequal transportation
Have you ever considered taking the buses, not the car, to your destination? According to his essay “The Bus, a Modern Panacea,” Lester Detroit states that the VTA system offers a fundamental solution for not only the SJSU student but includes most people who commutes to school or work. He claims that cars have the negative side effects for the environment problems; furthermore, cars are the problem of both traffic congestion and wasting time and money. He insists that students should “drop their car culture and create a new bus culture.” Bus is the “cure-all solution” for students. As for students, I strongly disagree with Detroit’s point of view that VTA system is a suitable transportation for students to commute. It is important for students to realize that not a lot of people know how to transit, taking the bus is inconvenient, safety concern, and pollution.
scheduling requiring no extra buses or bus drivers and changing the order of pick-ups can reduce bus costs (Eight). Eliminating bus routes with few students and pushing back start times, elementary kids, middle schoolers, and high school students would share buses, saving money for the school district.
“This method saves money by allowing drivers to run more than one route at a time, so fewer buses and drivers are needed.” Schools will save 30% on transportation which is a lot of money towards pay and lunch. “Lubbock ISD in Texas is anticipating saving more than 1 million dollars by utilizing start times prior to 8 a.m. at some campuses.” This would not change a lot, expecting that schools would only start 30 minutes earlier. “This schedule also means shorter bus rides for students and less time sitting in traffic.”

In today's day and age, an increasing urgency must be put on the issue of transportation and its relation to society. Man owes it to himself to address the issue of transportation with practicality and, as one of the biggest polluters, ultimate discretion. One of the most practical and responsible forms of transportation available today is mass transit. However, a problem is present in American society in that mass transit is not as plentiful as it should be. Societies' across the globe are embracing mass transit much more quickly than Americans are. This problem can be remedied through proper education of the benefits of mass transit. Mass transit is the ideal future of travel for
To begin, the car offers freedom to everyone so people can travel whenever and wherever they want. There no longer is reliability on train and bus schedules to tell you where you can go and what time. There is mobility anytime we want it, we can jump in the car and go where we want. The cars are essential to modern day because if we didn’t have cars then it would be like losing our freedom as said in, “Cars Now and Forever”.
Living far away from my high school, taking the bus became part of my morning routine. It was extremely frustrating because there wasn’t a bus in my neighborhood that went straight to my school. I had no other choice than to take two buses to get to school. The problem wasn’t that it wasn’t convenient, but rather it took up a lot of time. The first bus came exactly at 6:00 AM. It would go up a long stretch until it stopped on Lander Street, where I would catch the next bus. Depending on traffic, the next bus would either take 30 minutes or 1 hour. Sometimes I would walk to school just because I didn’t want to miss my first period class. Altogether, two public transportation agencies serve the city of Seattle, King County Metro Transit and
My first reason is that people wouldn't need to take a car ride to get there. With no car ride people won't get sick as much from car sickness. If there are still people who get sick from the car ride, they can have kids get their groceries for them. So, with not as many people driving into town there might not be as many car accidents, so it would be much safer.
Traditionally, the focus of transport system has been on passengers as cities were looked as locations of maximum human interactions with each other with intricate traffic patterns linked to commuting, commercial transactions and cultural/leisure activities.
