Amongst the many choices we have to make today, we also must make a decision on how we will get from point A to point B - utilizing public transportation or our own vehicles. Public transportation generally includes busses or trams for getting around town, and many large cities have commuter trains. While there are other forms of transportation such as taxis and for hire cars such as Uber, they can only move much smaller groups of people at a time. Public transportation in the United States and other developed countries is relatively safe, but recent issues regarding accidents is also taken into consideration. Contrary to comfort, when we consider the cost aspect, we can conclude that public transportation is the best option. Staff and personnel transport services and student transport services are performed through these vehicles which means these employers, colleges and universities, and programs may offer passes and discounts to cut down on the price. With a car, there are expenses that need to be put into that vehicle for multiple reasons including maintenance and getting around in general. With gas prices oscillating, the average consumer is bound to spend two to four dollars per gallon depending on your location and vehicle’s gas mileage. Over the span of a year the cost will eventually exceed the cost of an annual transit pass. Having to pay a six month or yearly insurance premium can also take its toll. Though the price differs between having liability and full coverage, it can still be pricey. Maintenance can also be costly if you or someone else can’t do the services; Cars need oil changes, new tires and breaks. This can cost anywhere from twenty dollars to hundreds of dollars. These vehicles are environmentally friendly. If everyone used their own cars, there would be a traffic worse than the “congestion” we typically experience. There will be a decrease in fumes and traffic which also means less pollution. Therefore, it will be less dangerous for global warming.
To sum it up, having a car is a very useful vehicle that offers many advantages. Public transportation has high capacity, saves energy and its cheap, but is less comfortable and less expensive. Public transit is more convenient for some people for many reasons. Using private cars is somewhat expensive and produces more pollution on atmosphere than public transport. All in all, public transport is known to be more efficient and cheaper than private cars.
