My first reason is that people wouldn't need to take a car ride to get there. With no car ride people won't get sick as much from car sickness. If there are still people who get sick from the car ride, they can have kids get their groceries for them. So, with not as many people driving into town there might not be as many car accidents, so it would be much safer. My next reason is that it would be cheaper. It would be cheaper because not as many people are buying from the stores so there are bigger chances for the prices to be lower. Another reason why it would be cheaper is because People won't spend as much money on gas for the trip. If there is a lower cost for gas, disabled people won't have to pay as much for others to get their groceries.
Car dependency is one of the most important problems in the United States. Owning a personal car is mandatory in most small towns. All roads are designed for cars without pedestrian ways, and so much of the land is reserved for parking lots. Pedestrian-friendly cities’ rates are really low when it is compared with car-friendly ones.
Pertaining to the “day without cars” tradition the city of Bogota, Columbia : “It has seen the construction of 118 bicycle paths, the most of any Latin American city…” (Belsky, 3) A single day without cars has encouraged not only, new businesses to spring up and infrastructure to be improved but also physical activity to become more common in countries that implement such a tradition. In my own experience, a less sedentary lifestyle means lower risk of heart disease, obesity, and other weight and activity related ailments. In addition car usage reduction seems to lessen stress, a claim that mother of two, Heidrun Walter testifies to. “ ‘When I had a car I was always tense. I’m much happier this way.’...” (Rosenthal 1). This is a benefit that cannot be ignored as higher stress levels can take a toll on your mental health. Last but certainly not least, is the fact that less smog will discourage the pollution-induced respiratory illnesses permeating the developed world. Polluted air is not meant to be breathed and less of it is better for the whole of the
Fifty cents of the gasoline tax dollar increase will go towards making the public transit system more feasible to people. This includes more bus stop locations, more arrival and departure times, more accessible train and airplane facilities, and increased safety precautions. Cheaper fares would also be a good means to increase the use of public transportation. In Huntsville, Alabama where the town is trying to have an efficient city system and is doing well at it, the tourist trolley fare is one dollar per trip and two
In general, everyone needs to go to places everyday whether it is work, visiting a family member, or just touring around interesting places. In order to go to these places, a person needs money. Public transportation costs a lot. Some people won’t be able
It turns out to be a huge pain when you have to drive over an hour for almost everything you need. When you live in Bethel, Texas you could go either way to go shopping. 43 miles to the East is San Angelo and 63 miles to the West is Abilene. Of course there is numerous rink-a-dink towns surrounding, that just like yours, don't have much. Traveling back and fourth can be a real pain too. Everyday, someone in the little town, would hit some kind of animal and wreck their vehicle. Whether it be a deer, a raccoon, or even an armadillo. Studies show estimates are that of about 1.5 million collisions like this happen on the U.S. roads and highways each year. Which results in approximately 150 human fatalities, of which, averaging 15-20 a year, Texas annually leads the nation in those fatalities. Having to go out constantly, can be a real
Why do we drive? Can't we just walk instead or just ride bikes. Life would be a whole lot different if we didn't have cars. It would take forever to get to work, school, and to meet up with friends. An upside though is that we would have less air pollution, so our air would be healthier to breathe in.
Every single day I have to ride my bicycle throughout the city of Miami. The perks I would say is that it is safer for the environment by causing less pollution in the air and I get a good cardio workout every day. The negative outcome of not having a car however is that I almost get hit or what feels like killed every other hour on the street. But how the person perceives this situation is really what is at hand. I take the time every once in a while and stop near a park or by a lake and just admire nature in its vast beauty and how truly wonderful it is to be alive, most people do not see how much of a blessing it is to just wake up every single day and being healthy. Having to worry about the weather is another issue that I have to be constantly worrying about, but thankfully at the end of the day it is just a little rain, unless it is a tremendous storm which dramatically increases my chance of being killed while riding my bike.
Also, the system will add in jobs so more people will begin to work in side of the county, growing its economy. Consider a small family: two children, their parent, and a grandparent. This family only has one car. Between work, school, and doctor’s appointments, the parent of this household is constantly stressed just worrying about getting everyone where they need to be while also getting to work on time every day. Then, what if the parent has a blue collar job, (common in Twiggs County), they may not make enough money to afford to skip work for doctor’s appointments. Thus, the grandparents and the kids have to forgo their healthcare because the parents does not have the time. By including a public transportation system, even if just to the local hospitals, everyone is guaranteed a way to the doctor’s office without the parent missing work. This decreases the mental distress of the parent and increases the physical inactivity of the
This also opens up access to people who may not be able to visit the stores due to poor mobility.
My first reason is that we have to drive far. One example is that we would have to drive to either Muscatine or Burlington to go to a Walmart. Secondly who wants spend twice as much on gas if you are going just to buy something for ten dollars and use twenty dollars in gas.
Some people might think that getting banned from driving is a burden and that there is no reason for it, but in reality there are so many benefits that they don’t know about. The first benefit in banning driving is the community. When not being able to get in a car by yourself and going from one destination to the next; you are being forced to get out and walk to where you want to go and maybe make some friends on the way and meet people the community. In the article, “ In German Suburb, Life Goes On Without Cars” the author reveals, “In this new approach, stores are placed a walk away, on a main street, rather than in malls along some distant highway.” By putting shops where people can access them better it makes it easier for the Germans
These kind of negative consequences can lead to positive pro-environmental behavior in regards to raising gas prices, building alternate routes around town, keeping sidewalks clean for individuals to walk on, and putting in bike lanes. By raising gas prices individuals do not travel as much so less traffic congestion and pollution, adding alternate routes around the town can help break up the flow of traffic, and adding bicycle lanes, and keeping sidewalks clean will help encourage individuals who live in town to ride bicycles, and walk. Positive consequences of traffic is that it encourages motorist to re-time their road trip to when the traffic is not as congested, and also by reducing speeds can cause less road accidents.
People that are blind could then have the ability to drive wherever they so choose. In addition, people who use a wheelchair every day could simply roll up to the car and go. Driverless cars would drastically cut traffic tickets in half. You would also have more time for other things while your car is driving you such as working on homework, talking on the phone, drinking coffee, and the list goes on and on.
Chosing between the cheapest and the best product is a decision that involves a broad analysis. In order to find the most economical product, one has to combine the best price with the best quality. Consequently, the right choice to find the most economical product could be neither the cheapest product nor the best product but a combination of the best quality and the best price.
Public transportation can help reduce stress caused by driving, save money, and also protect our environment by reducing the number of vehicles on the road. In order to get more people off the road and into the public transportation system we must increase the number of buses and taxis that are available. We must also increase the number of stops available for daily bus routes. With more stops on the map more people are likely to use the bus system. Each city or town will be able to decide where more bus stops are needed and make the adjustments necessary to provide better service for the taxpaying citizens. Of course, none of this is possible without adequate funds in each town/city and the gas tax is guaranteed to provide those funds. Providing more public transportation will help us reach our ultimate goal of protecting the environment and ourselves.
