What is a political Party? Though there are numerous definitions for a Political Party from a multitude of different scholars a Political Party could be defined as an organization of people who share the same views about the way power should be used in a country or society, by means of policy making and position in government. There are contrasting party systems used by different governments around the world in the past and in the present day.

A single party system is a system of government that allows only one political party to form a government. There are three different forms of single party systems; The openly single party state, which bans any other party from forming, for example North Korea. The virtually one party state which rules through coalitions with ‘puppet parties’. The disguised one party system that prevents other parties from opposing them fairly, notoriously the Nazi Party in Germany used intimidation and propaganda as well as monitoring voting before the election in 1933 to win the majority. This is contributed to the growing popularity of other parties mostly the Liberal Democratic party as well as for other smaller Parties like the right-wing UKIP and left-wing Green Party. Though the Labour and Conservative parties still currently dominate, this could turn out to not be the case in a few years’ time. Naturally, there are those that believe deferring from the traditional two-party system will lead to instability in government. However, there are also those that believe that an emerging multi-party system will be beneficial to the country as it encourages more voters as people feel they have a choice and align themselves with a party with whom they share
