This is because, addiction is a terrible disease that does not only affect the addicts themselves, and it also affects nearly everyone you are in contact with. Bennett states,” Society pays for this behavior”(35). There is a point where drug addicts cannot control themselves because they want to be high all the time. So they start doing anything to get high and by anything means lying to their family and friends, stealing from somebody close to you, borrowing money from people you know you cannot pay back.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is best known for its role on protecting the health of the public by making sure that food, medications are safe and effective. Especially when it comes to the pharmaceutical industry, its mission is to regulate pharmaceutical manufacturers, as well as the drug approval process. However, in the recent years, many arguments and controversy regarding drug development and regulation have risen. Drug advertisements make false and misleading claims, products are being put out on the market without any proof of safety, causing many unwanted incidents such as the Avandia incident and Vioxx incident, which could have been prevented in the first place.

Drugs mess with the brain in ways that we couldn’t even imagine. From destroying brain cells that help with critical thinking to destroying cells that give us the ability to feel pleasure. Drugs take the place of our natural body functions of the body. They fool receptors of the body and make it to where our bodies produce less of what we need. Over a period of time this may produce very severe consequences on the body. With all the risks involved with drugs it’s a wonder why some people use them.

Thousands of citizens have wasted their future because of these illegal drugs. But why do people take illegal drugs? Well, People tend to use these illegal drugs just to escape the reality they’ve been facing, but the truth is they are actually adding up their burdens because of what they did; some are because of teen pressure and the feeling of wanting to be fit in to a certain group. Most victims of illegal drugs generally come from broken families, rebellion, experimentation, ignorance, boredom or just because of curiosity. Curiosity leads people to do things beyond, even though most people say “I’m only going to try it once.” But it will never happen, because once you put yourself into a situation or once you indulge yourself into something it will be hard to turn your back from it. Most people are tempted to use illegal drugs because of the feeling what the drugs appear to
