The journey through late adulthood can be experienced in different ways. One particular movie entitled “The Bucket List” exhibits an astounding portrayal of late adulthood. In fact, there are many accounts that the movie entails about late-adulthood. This includes the illustration of Erickson’s late adulthood stage – “Ego Integrity vs. Despair,” wisdom, marriage, friendship, parent-child relationship, and death and dying in late adulthood.

Till I was twelve years old I had to ask my friends to hangout either by calling on our landline or go ride my bike to their house and see if they are home. Moving forward nine years in time with my birth cohort the process of cohort aging took place with new ways to communicate. Cohort aging is the process of a cohort moving from one age category to the next until it is extinguished. Now, I am twenty-one years old and all I have to do is type, “chill?” into my touchscreen mobile device! Then I wait for a notification on my screen to pop up with the word “sure” or “can’t.” As part of a birth cohort I felt a generational consciousness when, cell phones changed the way we communicate with one another on a daily basis. For this paper, I had the privilege of interviewing one of my friend’s grandmother. Her name is Jamie Hansen and she is a healthy and active 68-year-old grandmother. In the beginning of the phone call, I asked some basic background knowledge questions such as how many grandkids she has and if she was a widower or not. I found out that she and her husband are happily married and that she has six grandchildren. As I got to know her more I started asking questions that pertained to the interview aspect of social theories. I figured out that Mrs. Hansen’s responses led to an application of the continuity and socioemotional selective theories.

Aging risk factors, dependency on caregivers, and different types of abuse make it difficult to detect abuse in the elderly. A lack of adequate nutrients, or a poorly designed diet can lead to older adults having inactive lifestyles. The more a person is inactive the less muscle tone and flexibility they have. In addition, weaken muscles in the legs and arms make older adults unstable and prone to falls or bumping themselves into furniture, doors and other objects. You often hear of the elderly complaining about their sleep quality. Why do older people sleep worse than younger? Generally, a person’s health determines their quality of sleep. Older people who have health problems experience a harder time falling asleep compared to healthy elders. Health issues like back problems, for example, will cause a person’s back to hurt and when they sleep they will be quite uncomfortable. To find out how aging affects sleep, Dr. Vitilleo, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington, and other investigators started a study. Does everyone think about getting old? I think it’s scary to age because of health reasons. Aging is scary because it can get people closer to death. I’m scared to age because it changes everyone's looks even mine. Aging is bad because anyone can lose friends over time and family members because of aging.

Do you suffer from aches and pains? If you think it's just a normal part of aging, think again. While our body does experience some wear and tear as we grow older, back pain, stiff joints, and other body aches are not something to dismiss as a typical sign of aging.

Aging; the process of growing old, happens so quickly the individual who is undergoing the process does not even realize. One day they are young and able to run around a track and in the blink of an eye they need assistance to walk from the kitchen to the living room. Aging is a natural process in which the changes of a human being are shown over time. Changes such as physical, psychological, and social changes happen throughout the process. Along with going through the natural process of aging a humans body becomes more at risk for diseases. Aging is a very difficult and emotional process for an individual but it also is a very intense process for their caregiver as well.

I think aging is a special way to earn the truth knowledge of life. Like in the class, I was really happy that I can study with older people who have more wisdom of life than students who just dipped their feet into the water of the world. I like to be around people who are old. Even though I just sit and listen to what they are saying to something, every word that they speak is so deep. I mean, it holds a power of wisdom. So I think that’s why people ask their parents or grandparents when they face a hardship which they cannot break themselves.

Another major issue that the medical professionals are preparing to handle is the quickly growing aging population. As modern medicine allows people to live longer lives, the workforce is struggling to keep up. A majority of patients in these aging population tend to suffer from chronic diseases which, in turn, only adds an additional strain to the health care

As nursing professionals we need to enable us to provide services to the entire population as each stage of growth and development it has specific characteristics that must be cover to ensure that this population remains healthy. On this occasion I will focus on the older population as I understand it is the most vulnerable, children have parents who monitor their welfare, but older people on many occasions live alone and without support which puts them at risk . These risks include security, use of medications as prescribed, we must prevent polypharmacy, emotional disorders like depression that produce them loneliness and abandonment. The aging population has increasing and decreasing effects on health care today. Some effects are minor and some are major. They all are transforming, or eventually going to transform, health care. Some increasing effects that the aging population has made on health care today are obesity, falls, financial demands caused by the baby boomer era, and life expectancy. A decreasing effect that the aging population has made on health care today is the prevalence of disability. There are many other diseases and conditions also that can cause health care to change or cause health care costs, rates, etc. increase over time.
