Mental health is all about emotions, psychological and social well-being. It can affect an individual to think,feel and act. Mental health helps to determine how we handle stress, communicate with other people and make decisions.

By creating more cost-efficient and common treatment options, this should allow those affected to be able to receive treatments without breaking the bank. Those being affected by mental disorders daily may not know they are dealing with it. Some citizens may live their lives with problematic disorders without knowing they have it to begin with. By creating online websites and more information for the public to access, this can allow citizens to discover what they have, how to deal with it, and options. Some people are denied by heath officials or do not seek help because they “seem normal”, but can eventually end up hurting themselves or others. Many people may need help, but after a few interactions with health officials, seem as though they do not need the help. This can potentially danger themselves and others around them. Mental health is being aware, accepting yourself, and striking a balance in all aspects of your life; in particular social, spiritual, physical, economical, and mental (Association C. M., 2001). Mental health can be described as our positive interactions with the context and events in our life, and having the ability to cope with life’s stressors. Mental health problems can begin at anytime during your life. In fact, anything can make it difficult for an individual’s ability to interact effectively, which may lead into a mental health problem (Association C. M., 2001) (CAMH, 2010).

Child and adolescent mental health problems are at a point of crisis for our nation. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has identified that one out of every ten children or adolescents has a serious mental health problem that interferes with daily functioning, and another 10% have mild to moderate problems and fewer than one in five of these children receive the mental health services they need. SAMHSA asserts that half of adult mental illness begins before the age of 14, and three-fourths before age 24. They go on to state that more than 40% of youth ages 13 to 17 have experienced a behavioral health problem by the time they reach seventh grade. Concluding that suicide is the third leading cause of death among youth ages 15 to 24 after accidents and homicide. The costs of failure to prove adequate services to children and adolescents with serious mental illnesses are well known: high rates of incarceration in juvenile facilities; family disruption; social isolation; school truancy and drop out; and

According to Oxford dictionaries, mental health is defined as a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. In America, 1 in 5 Adults, being over 40 million Americans, have a mental health condition (National Alliance on Mental Health). Although what causes most mental disorders and health issues are not entirely known, many of these problems are by a combination of psychological, biological, and environmental components: one of the biggest being environmental factors, which includes situations involving poverty.

Since 1949, Mental Health America and its affiliates have celebrated Mental Health Month in May. In 2016, the theme for Mental Health Month is – “Life with a Mental Illness”. Therefore, Mental Health America is calling on individuals to share their stories about what life with a mental illness feels like, for them. So, our ministry is also taking action to share this message and to provide you with a platform to share your mental health stories. So, here are a few ideas to get us started. The suicide rate for adolescents has increased more than 200% over the last decade. Recent studies have shown that greater than 20% of adolescents in the general population have emotional problems and one-third of adolescents attending psychiatric clinics suffer from depression. Mental Illness signs are very crucial guises in suicide. Psychologist, Dr. Alex Lickerman states, "There are generally six reasons for suicide such as: being depressed, being psychotic, being impulsive, crying out for help, a philosophical desire to die, and making a mistake." Most of these reasons, however, have the same warning signs and causes. Some of the signs of suicidal behavior include: feeling hopeless, feeling trapped, feeling alone, feeling anxious or agitated, feeling as if there is no reason to keep living, thinking suicide is the only way out, experiencing mood swings, and abusing drugs or alcohol. 34. Mental health is an equal component of a person’s overall health. Mental health directly impacts our physical health and our ability to recover from disease or medical interventions. Therefore mental health needs to be deliberately and systematically integrated within the general health care system.

According to Mentalhealth.gov, "Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices."

It is true that mental health care is imperative to the well-being of an individual. Mental health affects how we think, how we feel, and how we act. Mental health care addresses things like anxiety, depression, personality disorders and addictions. When we are free of these things we are more likely to be happy and successful. Our mental health care is just as, if not, more important to our overall well-being as our physical health.
