During the story of Alchemist the main character set off on a journey to see what was out there for him and what he was here for. The two people that came to mind when talking about this topic were Stuart Scott and Craig Sager they were sports announcers that both changed the game and made it more entertaining, one thing they both had in common is that they fought cancer multiple times with a positive attitude. Craig was a very colorful and loved announcer the way he broadcasted made everyone just happy, while beating cancer he was always smiling and looked on the bright side of things. When Craig first started his career he was reporting for a station WXLT (now WWSB-Channel-40) in Sarasota Florida. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live (Stuart Scott).” In conclusion, both of these men have made me realize there is a journey for everyone and even though times get hard it all depends on how you live your life and how strong you are to always find your

“Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” The words of the great Jimmy Valvano. Jimmy was a Men’s Basketball Coach at N.C. State University. He is one of the greatest coaches of all time. But he is also the man who delivered the “Never Give Up” speech at the ESPY Awards in 1993. This has inspired so many people. It’s the thought of Cancer that often brings Jimmy into mind. Stuart Scott is also very inspirational when it comes to cancer. A real inspiration is Mrs. Spatz. She has beat cancer 4 times. Over and over again, she has fought and beat cancer. She is now a teacher at Wyndcroft Private School in Pottstown. Although she is my mother, she creates inspiration for many
He is thankful that for now his largest tumors seem to be stable. He says, “I am taking it a day at a time, a month at a time, a chemo cycle at a time. Sometimes I feel like a time bomb. No one know how this is going to go and no one can tell me. How do you live when you know next month may change dramatically? How much of my life do I have left? I always said I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. I have to be more mindful that this time bomb may go off at any time. Having cancer recalibrates everything for you. I am more mindful of how I spend my days and my time.”
Many people can relate to his personal battle with cancer and his dedication to cancer research. His speech was full of emotion. He gave examples of his anguish during a seven-day stay before the awards ceremony, explaining his liver complications, kidney failure, and multiple surgeries. This provided the audience with real life experiences to understand the depth of what this award stands for.
In 2009 my uncle was diagnosed with Cancer. Much like Sundiata, he did not display and fear in the face of danger. No matter how much his condition worsened, he stayed strong and shed no tears. For the sake of his family and friends, he did not want to show weakness. After his diagnosis, he underwent chemotherapy as well as many surgeries. He continued to work and support his family for as long as he could.
Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Terry was a very athletic teenager and partook in various sports. Ever since he was a kid, Terry’s determination was grasped. This was evident through his approach in sports especially basketball. Even if he was not that tall, and had minimal natural ability, he was determined to be part of the school’s basketball team. He accomplished this through hours of practice and persistence, and was chosen to be part of the team. He was only 18 years old when the doctors broke the news to him that he had bone cancer, and that his right leg was to be removed 15 centimetres above the knee. Nonetheless, Terry Fox overcame this amputation with positivity and poise, he was determined to do something with his life. When Terry was recovering in the hospital, he was overwhelmed with the bravery he saw in the other cancer patients. He was encouraged by the children cancer patients and their bravery. In the spring of 1977, Terry was illuminated with a wonderful idea, a cross-Canada run to increase money for cancer patients, the Marathon of Hope. Through this marathon, Terry was able to prove that a simple man who was facing a great hurdle in his life, was still able to overcome everything thrown in his way and accomplish a goal. It was easy for people to use Terry as an inspiration because he was just an

I decided to use former North Carolina basketball coach, Mr. Jim Valvano. On a night in 1993, Mr. Valvano gave a speech that greatly affected myself and possibly many others on an emotional level. He led North Carolina’s NCAA basketball team to a championship in 1983. In 1992, Mr. Valvano was stricken with metastatic adenocarcinoma, which is a type of cancerous tumor that occurs in several parts of the body.

One of the many of the world's problems is sickness, but some diseases have no cure which can result in death. Cancer is a code we just can’t seem to crack and it has taken hundreds of thousands of lives. Everyone knows of someone who has died of or had cancer in their life. It’s a hard sickness to beat but many strong people do beat it, some being children. I have personally seen my family members go through this and of course, some didn’t make it out alive. If you have seen anyone who has cancer, you’ll see how it can take over your body, how that person doesn’t even look like themselves anymore.
