I am interested in the Delta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at Cheyney University. Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African-American women has sparked my interest since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908 have been immaculate. Many AKA’s were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney University campus and surrounding areas. At Cheyney University I am a member of Iconic Modeling and Dance group. With the modeling group, we perform around Pennsylvania at other colleges, and on Cheyney University’s campus several times a year. This is the first group I joined my freshman year. Being from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and going to a college out of state was difficult for me to fit in. I began to see flyers for a modeling group and I immediately tried out. I made the team and have been on the team for 4 semesters now beginning Fall 2015. Iconic has taught me to build confidence while performing on stage in heels and that I can build a strong bond with each person on the team …show more content…
This organization is at many colleges. I was invited to be a part of the organization because at the end of my freshman year my GPA was a 3.1 cumulative. In the NSLS, I go to meetings generally once a month and listen to a live broadcast of a celebrity or public speaker about their story in college or family members story. Listening to the individuals helps me and other members of the society set short term and long term goals for an academic plan. At the end of the year members of the society get rewarded for all the hard work we have done that
“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life…” is a quote that seems to describe my present feelings. My interest that I have in joining the Sigma Psi Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is not a decision I make on the whim. This lifelong commitment is a step I make with confidence and determination. In the past year and a half, I have been exposed and admired these exemplary college educated women who have dedicated themselves to be of service to the community, the empowerment of others and themselves, and to leadership. The members of this sorority hold themselves to a high standard and forged these strong bonds of sisterhood with each other that have been influential in me making

One important activity on the list, is being involved in the National Honors Society. This organization recognizes scholars and well-rounded students in middle and high school. These students better themselves at being active community members and exhibiting profound leadership skills. I have the opportunity to be a part of this nationally known organization.
As an immigrant from Ghana, the Black diaspora is one that I hold close to my heart as I grew up around Black people from all ethnicities. I have always been interested in research and community initiatives that connects people. I believe that community engagement and connecting Black people across the diaspora is key to fighting for justice and the uplift of all Black people. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a sorority that has done this in more ways than one, both nationally and locally The sorority has taken their community engagement to a global level through many initiatives such as building a school in Haiti and a home for orphaned children in Swaziland.
I would like to be a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated because I relish, relate and appreciate the Foundation of which Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Incorporated was founded upon. The members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated are women who represent finer womanhood. They are kind, respectful and most of all professional. After being impressed with the Zetas on Bennett college campus, I decided to really take the time to learn more information about the organization. I went on the Internet, I visited the divine nine on various campuses and I fell in love with the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. One of the reasons I fell in love with the organization was because they were the only organization with the principal of Finer Womanhood.
I believe in the value of an education and that everyone should have access to it. I was fortunate enough to have parents who strongly believed in my dreams and encouraged me to pursue them as well as support them. During my college experience, my sorority has encouraged me to participate in philanthropic activities and I want to continue giving back to my community as a post-graduate. On of the main philanthropies my sorority focused on was CASA, which gives voices to children who were handed unfair circumstances in life. Due to the rising poverty levels in America, not every child has the means to pursue the education they deserve. I believe that an education has the ability to change someone's life and am extremely passionate about learning.
I would formally like to request membership to Sigma Kappa Delta. Joining Sigma Kappa Delta means a great deal to me because it would allow me to have a long-lasting bond with my fellow Lone Star College Alumni. Being a Maverick has completely changed my life and I feel that being a successful student has been, in part, to the relationships I have established at Lone Star.
Through Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity in law school, I have volunteered at the Habitat Restore in St. Louis cleaning up and organizing the merchandise. In undergraduate school, I volunteered almost monthly at the Habitat Restore in Champaign, IL through the University of Illinois Habitat for Humanity. I was heavily involved in the organization as a general member and as a member of the construction committee. As a construction committee member, I scheduled students for build days and delegated tasks at the worksites. I also helped plan the Spikin’ for Homes Volleyball Fundraising Tournament and a Trick or Treat for Change Fundraiser for Halloween. As a general member, I participated in builds and worked sconcession stands for Illini football

Dictionary.com defines reality as “something that constitutes a real or actual thing, as distinguished from something that is merely apparent” (“Reality”). In society people have become too comfortable with the world they live in. People learn the customs of society from their own experience and their plausibility structure. Plausibility structures are communities that people live in, and these individuals usually support the nomos, which is social order. Since these people have become alienated to the world, they fail to question the basic constructs of societal creations. These individuals are ignorant of their potential power in contributing their opinions that could change the future world. However there are many people that have become dealienated, meaning that they have their own conscious, of the socially constructed reality. These dealienated people recognize that they have “to live in the social world” so that

During my first two years of college I have been an active member in my sorority, Sigma Kappa. Within Sigma Kappa I have been able to participate in various service opportunities and community outreach programs. Such programs include: making and delivering sandwiches to the homeless in downtown Indianapolis, Trick or Treat Bag preparation and delivery for foster children, volunteering time for work within a church-based thrift shop, Walk to end Alzheimer’s, and most recently volunteering to assist the Indianapolis Humane Society where we reorganized stock rooms
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an organization that will go above and beyond to help the members achieve his or her goals academically. I have seen first had that this organization can and will help every college student that takes the change and joins. Not only does my local chapter recognize students for their dedication and hard work effort but also over the past year I have seen the difference this organization makes within the life of a college student.
The student Kimon McNeil seemed to just simply read the slide. He did not try and expand on the information. The other two female students did well in this area. They proposed solutions for these problems we feel are very well constructed. The one proposed solution that we feel stood out was Fraternities because it would build that unity between the black community as a whole and give young African American males a positive role model. There major findings in the article from 1992 on creating a single gender and single raced school for black boys was also interesting to us. This idea would help young African American males who may be searching for themselves, to not turn to a life of crime or drop out of school.
